The George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation (CHI) collaborates with clinicians, researchers, leadership and policy makers to generate and apply patient-oriented research in the health system and health policy environments. As a partnership between University of Manitoba and Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, CHI provides seven platforms which offer research expertise and services to facilitate development and implementation of evidence-based initiatives that improve care and outcomes for Manitobans. CHI is part of a national network of Support for People and Patient-Oriented Research and Trials (SUPPORT) units which are locally accessible, multidisciplinary clusters of specialized research resources, policy knowledge, and patient perspective. SUPPORT Units provide the necessary expertise to pursue patient-oriented research and help lead reforms in response to locally-driven health-care needs. They also lead and facilitate decision-making within the health services setting, foster the implementation of best practices, and promote collaboration among researchers engaged in patient-oriented research.

The culture of health care tends to view leadership as “solving problems.” But the conventional wisdom of fixing weaknesses (i.e., find what’s wrong and try to correct it) has been shown to be limiting and ineffective in the long term. It can lead to uninspired individual and organizational performance and contribute to demotivation and stress. Focusing on what works and paying more attention to what intrinsically energizes people is a much more effective approach.

This interactive course will help participants accurately identify their personal strengths and leverage them using pragmatic strategies. It also offers ways leaders can identify and leverage the strengths of their people and teams to increase work engagement and well-being and drive innovation.

DATE: December 2-3, 2022 (9:00 AM-4:00 PM CST)
TYPE: Virtual, Facilitated
DURATION: 2 days

CHI generates and supports health research in Manitoba.

We’re continually working on ways to improve the health of Manitobans and the health system that cares for them.

What is CHI? The George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation (or CHI, pronounced as three distinct letters, “C-H-I”) is part health research support hub, part think tank, and part implementation and evaluation centre.

As a SPOR SUPPORT Unit, we provide researchers with the tools they need to conduct patient-oriented research, and patients with the necessary training to participate in research as partners rather than as traditional research participants. This enables patients and the public to help guide the research that affects them.

As a SUPPORT Unit, we also serve as a convener in Manitoba, bringing the right players to the table— including researchers, policy makers, government, healthcare providers, and patients—to address our province’s pressing health issues.
