Boulevard access for Winnipeggers with disabilities!

The City of Winnipeg offers boulevard snow clearing services to eligible residents with accessibility needs through the Accessibility Access to Private Property Program.

Through this service, the City clears a 1.5 meter path on the boulevard between the curb and the sidewalk after a major snowfall. This provides a pathway from the resident's sidewalk to a pick-up and drop-off location.

Eligibility criteria
❄ The property for which the service is requested must not have a front driveway
❄ The resident must be physically incapable of shoveling snow, as certified by a doctor
❄ The resident must not live with any other able-bodied person capable of shoveling snow
❄ The resident must be financially unable to privately hire someone to do the work

Application recommended as soon as possible to allow for processing time and approval.

Apply at: winnipeg.ca/publicworks/snow/boulevard-access.stm

Whether your organization is looking for ready-to-implement or custom solutions to your accessibility challenges, MLPD will work with you on your journey to becoming a more accessible and inclusive organization.

Accessibility Reviews: A review of your organization’s physical space can ensure you are meeting the accessibility needs of staff and customers. MLPD’s team can perform accessibility reviews in a variety of spaces to help your organization become more accessible and inclusive to everyone. We have reviewed tourist attractions, office spaces, and factory floors, to name a few. Our tools are designed to adapt to the needs of your organization.

Accessibility Plans: Is your organization required to follow an accessibility plan under the Accessible Canada Act legislation? MLPD can support your organization with a detailed review to identify existing barriers, and work with you to meet the goals identified in your accessibility plans.

Policy Creation: MLPD will work alongside your organization to develop policies that align with your values and strategy. We will ensure that your policies lead your organization to becoming more accessible and inclusive. Our team’s knowledge of the Accessibility for Manitobans Act and Accessible Canada Act will ensure that your organization is compliant with the latest relevant legislation.

Staff Training: Organizations are often required to ensure their staff and managers are properly trained to ensure that they are meeting the needs of disabled people. MLPD can help you meet those requirements with our online modules, in-person training and custom solutions.

The National Educational Association of Disabled Students, is pleased to announce the release of the white paper β€œA Case for Decoupling Employment Income and Benefits for People Living with Disabilities.” Produced in collaboration with the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD), Sustainable Livelihoods Canada, the Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities, and the Quebec Association for Equity and Inclusion in Post-Secondary Education AQEIPS, this report establishes a clear case for governments in Canada to completely decouple employment income from provincial and federal disability benefits for Canadians with disabilities. This shift away from traditional clawback models ensures that people with disabilities are able to continue to collect monthly benefits while simultaneously engaging in work if they can choose to do so.
