: While both are places where people are buried, a graveyard is affiliated with a church and a cemetery is not. Graveyards are often smaller, located on church grounds and may be limited to people of that faith or members of the church. Cemeteries are often larger and open to anyone who wishes to be buried there.

In recognition of World Cancer Awareness Day we are sharing Jason's story:

My father received a diagnosis of Prostate Cancer in 2003, on his birthday. His retirement was just around the corner, and the diagnosis really caused him to refocus his thoughts about retirement and his employer benefits.

With wonderful care from the medical team, he had surgery and treatment in January 2004. His retirement did eventually happen the following year.

Although the ongoing monitoring and managing of cancer meant changes to retirement, he always was grateful for the twenty plus “extra” years he was given.

He went on to enjoy years of traveling and checking things off his bucket list. In 2024 cancer had returned and it was a battle he fought but could not win.

I will always be grateful for those “extra” years. His journey and his living with cancer helped me to focus on what is important and to remind me to always be grateful. I cannot thank his doctors and specialists enough for the gift of their care.
