Make Just Like New To You part of your holiday shopping this season. Located at 635 Portage Avenue, this well-loved thrift and consignment shop has been a neighbourhood staple for 20 years, started in 2005 by a group of retired nurses who wanted to give back.

This holiday season, 100% of proceeds from Just Like New To You are being generously donated to the HSC Foundation to support patient care, medical innovation, and research at HSC Winnipeg.

💙 Today, Just Like New To You was proud to donate $25,000 to the HSC Foundation.

This donation will help support the purchase of innovative eye-gaze technology for patients at HSC who are unable to speak or move. This life-changing equipment allows patients to communicate using only their eye movements — helping them express needs, connect with loved ones, and participate in their care.

Hearing first hand from care givers how this technology is already being used, and the profound difference it is making for patients and families, is a powerful reminder of the impact our volunteers, donors, and customers make every single day.

Thank you to everyone who supports our little shop — together, we are truly changing lives. 💙

Just weeks after prostate cancer surgery at HSC, Keith Barr was back lying under the stars at Riding Mountain National Park.

His surgery was supported by the donor-funded da Vinci Xi surgical robot, allowing for a smoother procedure and a quicker recovery. With smaller incisions and a shorter hospital stay, Keith was able to return home and resume his routine sooner than with conventional surgery.

“Dr. Nayak was great. I had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and I was confident throughout the process,” Barr says. “And I know that we only have the robot at HSC because of the generosity of donors. I’m really grateful for the people who contributed.”

Legacy giving isn’t just about today—it’s about shaping tomorrow. Philip and Anita Lee’s story reminds us how one family’s gratitude and vision can drive excellence and innovation at Health Sciences Centre for generations to come.

From life-saving surgeries to ongoing care, HSC has been part of the Lee family’s journey for many years. Their decision to join the Bannatyne Legacy Circle is a heartfelt way of saying thank you and a meaningful step toward ensuring Manitoba’s hospital continues to lead in research, technology, and compassionate care.

“Health care is a very important part of life, especially as people get older. HSC is the leading health care facility in the province and it has always had an enormous impact on people’s lives. We have experienced this in our own family and we are very grateful. Joining the Bannatyne Legacy Circle is our way of saying thank you.” – Philip Lee

By leaving a legacy gift, you too can help the HSC Foundation drive breakthroughs in patient care and medical innovation so future generations of Manitobans receive the very best.

Thank you, Manitoba 💚

Because of your generosity on Giving Tuesday, patients across Manitoba will benefit from enhanced surgical care at HSC Winnipeg.

Your Giving Tuesday donations will help equip HSC Winnipeg’s hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgical team with advanced technology that supports better patient outcomes for people facing complex liver, pancreatic, and bile duct diseases.

Your impact was made even greater thanks to the generosity of Greg and Becky Fettes, who matched online and phone donations, and Manitoba Pork Producers, who matched text-to-donate gifts — helping every contribution go further.

Thank you for helping strengthen care for Manitobans.

The Winnipeg Jets brought their team spirit to the HSC Winnipeg PsychHealth Child and Adolescent Unit today! 🏒💙

Players spent the afternoon meeting young patients, signing autographs, and joining in on games and activities. Their visit brought a welcome moment of joy to the kids and teens they met.

A big thank you to the PsychHealth team for your daily dedication to supporting young patients and their families year-round.

Double Your Impact This Giving Tuesday!

Today, your generosity goes twice as far to support Manitobans facing complex liver, pancreatic, and bile duct diseases.

This year, we’re raising funds to equip HSC’s hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgical team with two critical technology upgrades that will improve safety, expand treatment options, and lead to better outcomes:

✔️ ICG Fluorescence Imaging (Stryker 4K ICG Laparoscopic Tower)
Provides real-time, enhanced visualization of blood flow, bile ducts, and organ function—helping surgeons clearly see tumours and other critical structures.

✔️ Microwave Ablation Technology (Medtronic Emprint™ System)
Destroys tumours quickly and accurately with less invasiveness, allowing more patients to receive curative treatment.

💚 Your gift will be matched today — online and phone donations up to $50,000 by Greg and Becky Fettes, and text-to-donate gifts up to $5,000 by Manitoba Pork Producers.

Give by calling 204-515-5612 or 1-800-679-8493 (toll-free), texting HSCF to 20222 to donate $25, or donating online: https://www.hscfoundation.mb.ca/donate/

Together, we can help strengthen care and improve outcomes for patients across Manitoba.

Dr. Perry Gray: Driving Patient Impact at Radiothon Since the Beginning

The Innovation HSC Radiothon, presented by Maric Homes, has always been about sharing the exciting work that happens at HSC.

Dr. Perry Gray has been with us since the very first Radiothon in 2005. A Critical Care Physician who continues to provide direct patient care, Dr. Gray has also served on our Board of Directors since 2012. He was one of the first doctors we interviewed in 2015 and recalls:

✨ “I remember the first Radiothon was great, but right away we saw that the phones would not ring as much if we weren’t focused on patient impact with the research, equipment, and programs we provide. So, we quickly changed course and noticed an immediate response from the community.”

Nearly 20 years later, that focus on patient impact is still what drives Radiothon. It’s our chance to celebrate and share the incredible work that our doctors and health care professionals provide for all Manitobans.

Thank you, Dr. Gray, for your leadership, dedication, and support since the very beginning.
