"Self care is creating and sticking to your original content even if you think you're the only one who appreciates it."
-Rachel Wolchin

I'm still learning what self care means and looks like to me.

I work hard, too hard sometimes. Maybe I need to learn to play even harder, or maybe I need quiet "me time".
I love hard, too hard sometimes. Maybe I need to learn to offer less of myself to others, or maybe I need to love myself more.
I overthink, too hard sometimes. Maybe I need to learn to categorize my thoughts, or maybe I need to quiet my mind.

I'm still learning about me, and how to take care of me.

What does self care mean to you?
What does self care look like to you?

Catch those bad habits before they become a reason for chronic pain.

This 10 year old was carrying his backpack with one strap over his right shoulder. He was complaining of back pain and headaches. My focus was to educate the importance of posture to reduce/hopefully eliminate his pains. We met every other day for 30 minute massage treatments for two weeks. For 15 minutes after the massage, we focused on stretching the left lower back and strengthening his upper back and shoulders with resistance bands. His homework was to wear his backpack properly.

Do you suspect your posture may be contributing to any pain you are experiencing?

** Please note: clients under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian present in the massage treatment room **

Here is a before and after shot of eight weekly treatments that I did on my client. She was left with these scars after her abdominal surgeries, so our focus was on scar tissue release and gaining thoracic extension (so she can stand/sit up straight without pain). My client was very compliant; along with the weekly massages, she did her homework doing scar tissue release techniques that I taught her, and she did strengthening exercises to correct her posture and gain her mobility back.

Scars are the formation of cells and collagen around a point of injury.

Scar tissue can result in pain, aching and restriction of the surrounding tissue as well as tissue that performs the opposite movement of the injured area.

Scar tissue release and massage mobilization of the scar are important for encouraging scar and tissue mobility.

Scar tissue release should not be performed within the first 2 weeks of injury.
