Arcane Horizon Community

Arcane Horizon Community Community supports that focus on quality of life for adults with intellectual disabilities

Arcane Horizon was founded based on the Gentle Teaching Principles in July 1995 to support two men in their own home within the community. Since the agency's inception we have expanded to support over 50 individuals using four distinct supported living models: Residential Living, Supported Independent Living & Fostering and Proctoring. Arcane also provides individualized day support services as required for individuals in all our supported living programs. A volunteer Board of Directors governs the agency working with the Executive Director who, along with a team of dedicated Management and direct service staff, is responsible for the day to day operations of the agency. Arcane has built a reputation recognizing people as capable individuals, and being able to effectively develop support plans that fulfill their needs.

Team Tuesday (on a Friday!)

From frontlines to behind the scenes, thank you for being the difference.

Today we are celebrating Bianca Sawatzky, who has been part of the Arcane Horizon family since April 2010. Bianca began her journey as a Direct Support Professional at our McLeod home and has grown alongside the people and team she supports. In 2020 she stepped into an Assistant Manager role, and by 2021 she became Manager, bringing with her a steady, compassionate leadership style.

Bianca is known for her warmth, dedication, and deep care for both the individuals she supports and her staff team. She works tirelessly to keep her home running smoothly, stepping in wherever needed and even covering shifts across homes to support the wider organization. Over the years, Bianca has grown into a confident, highly organized leader and remains an incredible asset to Arcane Horizon.

Thank you, Bianca, for the heart and commitment you bring to your work every day.

This week we had the pleasure of meeting with Jodie Byram MLA for Agassiz and representatives from the PC Party of Manitoba to discuss the growing needs of adults with intellectual disabilities in our province.

We appreciated the thoughtful conversation, the spirit of partnership, and the shared commitment to building stronger supports for our community.

We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside leaders who are listening and engaging on these important issues. Read more in the attached article.

Please Note: Arcane Horizon is a non-partisan organization, we are open to meeting with all parties and representation in an effort to raise awareness and support for our community. Arcane Horizon plans to meet with the Liberal Party of Manitoba within the next month and then the NDP during the summer months.

🚨 Last chance to donate tomorrow! 🚨

Tomorrow is the final day of Arcane Horizon’s clothing drive, and we are welcoming donations until 3pm at 3401 Roblin Boulevard.

We are collecting new and gently used clothing for the adults we support, newcomers to Canada working within our organization, and local downtown Winnipeg shelters. A small act of generosity can go a long way. If you are doing a bit of early spring cleaning, we would love to give your clothing a second life where it is truly needed.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this drive so far. Let’s finish strong and come together as a community to make a difference.

🚨 Dernière chance de donner demain! 🚨

💙 Team Tuesday 💙

From front line to behind the scenes, thank you for being the difference.

This week, we’re shining a well-deserved spotlight on Leah, nominated by her colleague Arlene 💐

Leah brings 20 years of dedication in social services into every space she enters at Arcane Horizon. What makes her impact so powerful isn’t just her experience—it’s her heart. Leah has a genuine love for the people she supports and a deep commitment to helping each person reach their individual goals in ways that feel meaningful and empowering.

She has a true gift for seeing people as they are—taking the time to learn about unique interests, strengths, and needs, and then building supports that reflect that individuality. Leah’s curiosity, compassion, and respect for personal journeys are felt by everyone around her.

Beyond her day-to-day support work, Leah shines when it comes to planning, collaborating, and bringing people together. From events to celebrations, she helps create moments of joy, connection, and belonging—because she understands that community is built not just through care, but through shared experiences.

Thank you, Leah, for your years of service, your passion, and the care you bring to our community every day. And thank you, Arlene, for taking the time to recognize someone who truly makes a difference 💙

Let’s give Leah some love in the comments! 👏✨

🌍 Wide World Wednesday — Local Roots, Global Reach

Today, Wide World Wednesday brings us back to our own backyard — because connection to the world starts with inclusive hiring at home.

Sukhman and Trent proudly represented Arcane Horizon at the University of Manitoba Career Fair, connecting with incredible students from around the globe and right here in our community. Tomorrow, Teresa and Mabama will continue that work at the University of Winnipeg Career Fair.

These events are powerful spaces where we meet future leaders, compassionate professionals, and passionate people who want to build meaningful careers that strengthen community, dignity, and inclusion.

We are grateful to Trent, Sukhman, Teresa, and Mabama for representing Arcane Horizon so beautifully and for helping share the opportunities, values, and impact of the work we do every day.

Mission in Motion. Powered by People.

Team Tuesday 💛 - From frontline to behind the scenes, thank you for being the difference.

Today, we’re celebrating Mel, one of our incredible House Managers, and a true force of joy and care in our homes.

Mel is the kind of person who walks into a room and instantly changes the energy. Always smiling, always laughing, and always lifting the people around her with that infectious laugh that turns ordinary moments into shared joy. She brings warmth, humanity, and heart into every space she enters.

In her short time with us, Mel has worked across several of our homes, consistently providing outstanding, person-centered supports and showing what true compassion in action looks like. She’s someone who never hesitates to help when someone’s in need, and whose kindness shows up in both big moments and quiet ones.

Thank you, Mel, for being light, laughter, and leadership all at once.
You make a difference every single day. 💛

Mission Monday | Mission in Motion, Powered by People.

Every student deserves the right to read, learn, and thrive. A recent report highlights that students with dyslexia and other reading disabilities still face barriers in our schools — barriers that limit access to evidence-based instruction and supports.

In Manitoba, the Human Rights Commission is documenting these barriers and recommending action to uphold the right to read, while the government has passed Bill 225 to introduce universal early reading screening for young learners.

These steps are important, but more must be done to ensure inclusive, equitable education for all. Together, we can support systems that empower students with learning differences and break down systemic ableism in education.

Disabled students continue to face barriers constructed and enforced by our schools. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization estimates that globally, children with disabilities are twice as likely to be denied access to education.

🌐 World Wide Wednesday 🌟

Today for World Wide Wednesday we’re shining a light on an important cause that matters everywhere: support and inclusion for adults living with intellectual disabilities.

Many organizations around the world work every day to defend rights, improve access to services, and build communities where everyone belongs. One inspiring example from the Arctic is Tilioq – Greenland’s national advocacy organization for people with disabilities. Tilioq supports the rights, well-being, and opportunities of people with disabilities and helps ensure the full implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Greenland 🇬🇱.

As Greenland captures global attention, it’s a great moment to celebrate and share organizations working to make their communities more inclusive and fair for all.

Let’s lift up voices everywhere and support dignity, inclusion and equality. 💙

🌐 Mercredi Mondial 🌟

Loving local art!!!

I’ve been sitting with this one for a while, and it finally has a name: Family Tree 🌳

It’s about the love that shapes us — from the families we’re born into to the ones we choose. The way those connections intertwine, support, and grow into something greater than the sum of their parts.

Family Tree will be one of two pieces I’ll have available at for the group show “Love Story”, opening January 22nd.

Hope it resonates with you.
Much love ❤️

01/20/2026

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share that Arcane Horizon has officially launched a clothing drive, and we’re asking our staff and Board to help lead the way.

This drive runs now through Friday, February 6, and it’s a simple but powerful way for us to directly support the people we serve—and others in our community who need a hand right now.

🧺 How the Clothing Drive Will Work
• All donated items must be washed and in decent to new condition
• Donations can be dropped off in bags of any kind
• Please deliver to:
Arcane Horizon
Attention: Sean Seywright
3401 Roblin Boulevard
• We will accept and sort donations up to February 6

👕 Who the Clothing Will Support
• February 9–11:
Sorted and organized clothing will first be offered to:
o Adults supported by Arcane Horizon
o Newcomers and individuals connected to Arcane Horizon who may need clothing for work, interviews, or daily life
• February 12:
The majority of remaining clothing will be delivered to:
o Agape Table
o Siloam Mission
o Main Street Project

🧥 What We’re Most in Need Of
All washed items in good condition are welcome, with a particular need for:
• Newer socks
• Suits, dresses, and interview-appropriate clothing (men and women)
• Children’s clothing
• Winter items to keep people warm on cold nights
• Waterproof or weather-appropriate clothing to help people stay dry and safe

♻️ Our Challenge to You
We’re challenging everyone—staff and Board alike—to donate at least one garbage bag of gently used clothing (and more if you’re able!). This is a perfect opportunity to:
• Spring clean
• Organize closets
• De-clutter
• And turn unused items into direct community impact

This is one of those moments where a small individual action adds up to something meaningful. Thank you for supporting this effort and for continuing to show up for the people and communities we serve.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
