🌿Reclaiming the Sexual Self: An Eco-informed Online Art Therapy Group✨

Thursdays | Feb. 19 – Mar. 12, 2026 | 5-7pm PST

This 4-week trauma-informed online art therapy group builds on the depth of previous offerings while introducing an expanded eco-art therapy–informed approach. This fourth iteration of Reclaiming the Sexual Self responds to a growing need for grounding, embodiment, and meaningful connection to self, to others, and to the natural world during a time when many are seeking steadiness, relationship, and reconnection.

Structured as a seasonal arc, the group unfolds over four weeks. Sexuality is explored as a source of liberation, pleasure, and self-knowledge through creative expression that is relational, embodied, and informed by the natural world. Eco-art therapy practices invite participants to draw on nature for resourcing, regulation, and reflection, emphasizing interconnection, reciprocity, and a sense of belonging.

Through guided artmaking and reflection in a closed online group, participants will:
- Reconnect with the s*xual self through embodied, nature-informed creative practices
-Explore personal narratives around s*x, pleasure, and identity within a relational and seasonal framework
-Cultivate grounding, empowerment, and connection through creativity and eco-based resourcing

This group can serve as a referral option, complementary resource, or personal exploration for therapists, counsellors, and art therapists wishing to expand client offerings through a creative, group-based, eco-informed approach.

Facilitated by Rachel Krause & Madison Traverse, Professional Art Therapists (DKATI), Registered Therapeutic Counsellors, & creators of Root & Reclaim Art Therapy. Open to female and non-binary identifying individuals (18+) seeking to (re)connect with their s*xual selves. No art experience is required.

All participants will begin with a one-to-one intake session to explore personal needs, intentions, and group fit.

We recently completed our third 6-week online group, Reclaiming the Sexual Self. What began as Madison’s student research at the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute has continued to grow into a deeply meaningful, relational, and creative space. We feel humbled, grateful, and truly moved by the courage, care, and artistry that emerged throughout this group.

Swipe through to see some of the response art we created as facilitators—witnessing, honouring, and reflecting back the depth of this journey.

💖Meet our co-creator and professional art therapist, Madison Traverse BA, DKATI❤️‍🔥

With an educational background in psychology and 8+ years of client-based work experience supporting neurodivergent communities, Madison brings deep care, curiosity, and creative collaboration to her work.

Rooted in relational neuroscience and feminist theory, Madison’s approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and shaped by the belief that healing is a relational and creative process.

She is passionate about creating safe, affirming spaces for individuals navigating identity, trauma, and systems of mental health care—particularly neurodivergent folks, women, q***r communities, older adults, and teens.

Madison is especially interested in the intersections of art therapy and s*xuality, and is deeply committed to advocating for s*xual liberation and female empowerment. She recently completed a research project exploring these intersections and published a thesis titled Reclaiming the Sexual Self in Group Art Therapy with Women.

🖌️ What is Art Therapy? Let’s break it down.

Art therapy is a mental health profession that combines the creative process and psychotherapy to support emotional, psychological, and social well-being. 🎨🧠

As the Canadian Art Therapy Association puts it, it’s about using art-making in a safe, supportive environment to explore feelings, process experiences, increase self-awareness, and develop healthy coping strategies.

At Root and Reclaim Art Therapy, we use art therapy to support people in navigating life’s challenges, whether that’s anxiety, grief, trauma, burnout, identity exploration, or just the need to reconnect with yourself.

You don’t need to be an artist to benefit. This work is about process, not product. It’s about:
✨ Reclaiming your voice
🌿 Reconnecting with your inner wisdom
🖌️ Using creative tools to regulate your nervous system
🤝 Feeling seen, supported, and safe in relationship

Whether you’re working with us one-to-one or in a group setting, art therapy invites you to explore, reflect, and grow— on your own terms.
