Pivoted Perspective Therapeutic Services

Pivoted Perspective Therapeutic Services Private Clinical Therapist in Wolfville, NS; offering in person and virtual therapy. Most of us have negative thoughts from time to time.

It is when those thoughts become our truths and go unrecognized as myths, that we suffer. I named my business”Pivoted Perspective”, because, I too, can allow those thoughts to seep in and make themselves at home.

“Pivot” is a word I use as a tool (thought stopping) to shift gears and reframe. This is one of many effective CBT techniques used in therapy to help change behaviour and thought patterns that get in the way of living a happier life. My own experiences and learning to manage them have been integral in getting me where I am today; and like everyone, I am a work in progress. My hope is that I can share what I have learned personally, professionally, and academically with others via Pivoted Perspective Therapeutic Services.

This weekend I attended a workshop, "Intro to Trauma and the Why of Yoga", to build my knowledge around the connection between mental wellness and yoga.

I am excited to continue to learn and begin to share yoga as an option for anyone interested in including it as part of their therapeutic process!

🧡 Every Child Matters 🧡

Thank you Wolfville for honouring the lives lost.

Last Thursday, the remains of 215 Indigenous children were discovered on the grounds of the Kamloops (Tk’emlups) Residential School.

The Town of Wolfville stands with the Secwépemc people, Indian Residential School Survivors, their families, and their communities as they process this tragic loss.

For 215 hours, our flags will fly at half-mast, in remembrance of the children who never made it home.

Please join us in finding a way to honour the 215 children whose lives were taken at the former Kamloops Residential School and all Indigenous children who never made it home, the survivors, and their families.

Yoga will soon be offered at Pivoted Perspective, as a supplementary tool to the treatment modalities used in sessions (CBT, DBT, Strength’s Based, Solution Focused therapies).

Yoga has been shown to create a greater sense of well-being, increase feelings of relaxation, improve self-confidence, improve efficiency, increase attentiveness, lower irritability, and decrease anxiety and depression symptoms.

As a 200 hour yoga certified teacher, I am excited to offer this service! It has been a dream of mine to share this as an option within a mental health setting.

I have a particular interest in Yin/Restorative Yoga and have personally experienced the benefits yoga practice has in increasing mental wellness.

If someone is interested in learning yoga skills as a complement to the therapeutic process we will discuss the pros and cons for you as an individual. We will work together to ensure this is an appropriate option for you and modify for any injury or limitation you may have.

This service will begin in July, dependant on where the province is with restrictions around Covid. The space is sufficient for over 6 feet between mats which will be implemented regardless of restrictions.

In Fall 2021 (again, dependant on restrictions) a 6 week Yoga and Mental Health group program will be offered to the public. Stay tuned for more info!!

*A waiver will be signed by clients who chose to partake.

Walk and Talk / Outdoor Therapy?

Pivoted Perspective will be offering the opportunity to get outside and engage in movement (release those endorphins!) and/or meet in a private outdoor space during a session.

Located in the beautiful town of Wolfville, there are many trails and spaces that provide amazing opportunities for this!

This, of course, will be an option that will evoke several questions/concerns that we will discuss before venturing out. It is also not the right fit for everyone, but for some it has shown to have great benefit to the therapeutic process.

Two of the most common questions include:

What if I see someone I know or recognizes you as a mental health professional?

For some this may not be of concern, but for many it is a legitimate and fair question. For anyone who is interested but unsure we will work together to set up boundaries around how you want to proceed if you do see someone you know.

What about confidentiality?

Your privacy is extremely important which again, involves us working together so you can make an informed decision about whether this is a good fit for you.

At this moment, walk and talk is not an option as it does not allow for 6 feet between us. However, when the weather warms up, the option to meet at a private space and ensure proper distance will soon be an option. Fingers crossed we see numbers decrease and restrictions lifted soon!

*Clients will sign a waiver consenting to participate.
