Thank you to everyone who joined our recent webinar on How CANNN’s Mandate Shift Strengthens Public Protection and Nurse Representation.

This transition marks a major step forward — ensuring CANNN can focus fully on regulation and public safety, while the new Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Nurses (NTNAN) advocates for nurses’ professional growth and leadership.

Together, these two organizations will better serve both the public and the profession.

⚖️ Compassion is at the heart of nursing — but maintaining professional boundaries is how we protect both our patients and ourselves.

A kind “no” can be just as caring as a “yes.”

Professional boundaries safeguard trust, uphold ethical standards, and support safe, high-quality care.

🔔 Registration Opens Tomorrow!

It’s that time of year again — registration renewal opens tomorrow for all nurses practising in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

We know there have been important updates since last year’s renewal, and our recent Town Hall Q&A covered everything you need to know:

✅ New Registration System – Alinity:
Renew your license easily through our new, secure system. If you previously had a Thentia account, simply log in using the same email — and click “Forgot Password” to reset your credentials if needed.

✅ Updated Registration Manual:
Our fully updated manual now aligns with the Nursing Professions Act and consolidates all registration policies in one easy-to-navigate document.

✅ Streamlined License Categories:
The non-practising category has been removed. Only Active, Graduate, Temporary, and Educator licenses will continue.

✅ New Graduate Nurse License:
Recent graduates can now apply under this defined license type — valid for 3 months, extendable up to 24 months while preparing for the entry-to-practice exam.

💡 Tip: Be sure to review the new Registration Manual before you begin your renewal — it’s available on our website under each designation’s application page and in the News section banner.

🗓️ Renewal opens tomorrow!
If you have questions, our Town Hall recording is available to watch on Microsoft Stream through your registrant portal.

Today, we pause to honour the survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities, and to remember the children who never returned home. This day is a reminder of the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the responsibility we all share in advancing reconciliation.

The College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN) acknowledges that our office is located on Chief Drygeese Territory, the traditional lands of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation since time immemorial. We also recognize that our work regulating the nursing professions extends across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, which includes portions of Treaties 8, 11, the Nunavut Agreement, and Inuit Nunangat.

We are grateful to live and work on these lands, and we are committed to deepening our understanding of the distinct histories, languages, and cultures of all Indigenous Peoples, including the Dene, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reaffirm our commitment to listening, learning, and walking together in the spirit of respect, healing, and reconciliation.
