🚨 What you need to know about Red No. 3 🚨
Red No. 3 is a synthetic dye that has been banned in most food uses across the EU since the early 1990s. Other countries like Japan, China, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand have also prohibited its use.
In October 2023, California led the way as the first U.S. state to ban Red 3 in food products due to its potential health risks. Following this, the FDA issued a nationwide ban in January 2025, although the dye won’t be fully phased out until 2027.
After analyzing 430,000 products, we found this dye in 10,000 items, mainly in categories like chewing gum, desserts, cookies, and cakes—products that shouldn’t dominate a balanced diet anyway.
