This moment shines a light on a bigger issue: where was her guardian, caregiver, or advocate? Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities often cannot navigate the legal system on their own. Without someone standing beside them to explain, protect, and advocate, they are left vulnerable, confused, and unfairly punished.

👉 This is why guardianship, caregiving, and advocacy matter. Families and caregivers play a critical role in protecting individuals with IDD — ensuring their rights are upheld, their needs are understood, and their voices are heard.

This isn’t just about one woman. It’s about an entire community of people who deserve dignity, compassion, and proper support systems. We must do better.
