The Swiss Medical Student’s Association, better known by its acronym swimsa, is the voice of 9000 medical students, both nationally and internationally. Since 1917, it has brought together medical students from all over Switzerland who are committed to their education and public health and formed a network that facilitates the development of projects and ideas. It inspires medical students to be engaged and to commit to what is important to them. Last week we had the opportunity to attend the FMH Medical Assembly (Ärztekammer / Chambre médicale) 2025 in Biel. 🩺

The Medical Assembly acts as the parliament of the FMH – it’s the association’s highest governing body, with 200 elected delegates from across Switzerland shaping key medical policies and making binding decisions for all members.

This year’s most prominent topic was the delay in granting specialist titles (Fachärzte / médecin spécialiste). The SIWF (ISFM) took its stand, various perspectives from physicians all over Switzerland were heard, and a motion from the VSAO/asmac was accepted.

It was fascinating to see just how closely politics and medicine are connected.

Already looking forward to the next assembly in June!
