💥 QuickSwitch IM Reamer

Yesterday, we introduced a brand-new product to our trauma line-up: the QuickSwitch Intramedullary Reamer.

Building upon our successful flexible IM reamer, it features a completely redesigned reamer head with a slot. The reamer guide has a narrower section that allows to quickly exchange the reamer head without pulling out the entire shaft.

This new system brings many advantages to surgeons, notably a faster and simpler reamer head exchange leading a more efficient procedure.

The feedback from early testers is very promising, and reactions after our presentation yesterday confirmed the potential of the product.

💥 Alésoir intramédullaire QuickSwitch

Hier, nous avons présenté un tout nouveau produit dans notre gamme de produits pour traumatologie : l'alésoir intramédullaire QuickSwitch.

S'appuyant sur le succès de notre alésoir intramédullaire flexible, il est doté d'une tête d'alésage entièrement repensée autour d'une fente. Le guide de l'alésoir présente une section plus étroite qui permet de remplacer rapidement la tête de l'alésoir sans retirer toute la tige.

Ce nouveau système offre de nombreux avantages aux chirurgiens, notamment un remplacement plus rapide et plus simple de la tête de l'alésoir, ce qui rend la procédure plus efficace.

Les premiers retours des testeurs sont très prometteurs et les réactions après notre présentation d'hier ont confirmé le potentiel de cette nouveauté.

AAOS 2026 has started!

We're back at the largest orthopedics trade show in the world, and this week is going to be a big one!

Tomorrow, we will be introducing a brand new product that has the potential to make trauma surgery faster, cleaner and more efficient. We will take the stage at the Innovation Theater (booth #702, hall B2) at 11:00 am on Wednesday to unveil all the details. Be sure to join us!

After the presentation, a celebratory aperitif will be served at our booth #1519, where you'll have the chance to go hands-on with the new product.

Ball screw, ball screw... What even is a ball screw? 🤔

We talk a lot about our ball screws and how they enable smoother motion than other friction-based solutions. But how exactly does a ball screw work?

A ball screw is made of a threaded shaft, balls, and a nut. Unlike a lead screw where the nut slides directly on the thread, a ball screw utilizes the balls as a rolling intermediate. As the shaft rotates, the balls are recirculated through the nut.

This creates a system where there is very low friction, leading to smoother and more precise motion while ensuring a long lifetime.

Vis à billes, vis à billes... C'est quoi une vis à billes en fait ? 🤔

Nous parlons beaucoup de nos vis à billes et du fait qu'elles permettent un mouvement plus doux que d'autres solutions qui ont recourt à la friction. Mais comment est-ce qu'une vis à billes fonctionne exactement ?

Une vis à billes est composée d'un axe avec un filetage, de billes et d'un écrou. Contairement à une vis-écrou (lead screw) où l'écrou est en contact direct avec l'axe, une vis à billes utilise les billes comme intermédiaire de roulement. De plus, quand la vis tourne, ces billes sont recirculées au sein de l'écrou.

C'est ainsi qu'on obtient un système à très faible friction qui permet un mouvement plus doux et plus précis tout en garantissant une durée de vie supérieure.

Big milestone for the MOONS project!

Late last year, the largest astronomy instrument ever built in the UK has left Edinburgh and is travelling 7'000 miles to the European Southern Observatory’s Paranal site in Chile, where it will be integrated on the Very Large Telescope.

MOONS (for Multi-Object Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph) is a new space exploration project that can capture images from up to 1'000 celestial objects at once, opening the way for breakthroughs in our knowledge of how galaxies form and evolve.

For MPS, this is a big moment, as no light would ever be captured without our fiber positioners in this project. 1'001 of our tiny systems are placed on the focal plane of the telescope and collect light from the sky, enabling MOONS to gather important information about our universe.

Grande étape pour le projet MOONS !

Début décembre, le plus grand instrument d’astronomie jamais construit au Royaume-Uni a quitté Edinburgh pour entamer un voyage de plus de 11'000 km vers l'Observatoire Européen Austral (ESO) au Chili, où il sera intégré au Very Large Telescope (VLT).

MOONS (Multi-Object Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph) est un spectrographe de nouvelle génération capable de capter la lumière de jusqu’à 1'000 objets célestes simultanément, ouvrant la voie à des avancées majeures sur la formation et l’évolution des galaxies.

Gathering the Swiss photonics industry across the pond

On Wednesday evening, the Swiss Apero took place at our booth at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco.

Organized conjointly with Swissmem photonics, Swissphotonics and Photonics Booster for the third year in a row, this event gave people from the photonics industry and beyond the opportunity to network and exchange on a range of topics. As always, it was a big success!

Mercredi soir a eu lieu Swiss Apero sur notre stand à la SPIE Photonics West à San Francisco.

Organisé conjointement avec Swissmem Photonics, Swissphotonics et Photonics Booster pour la troisième année consécutive, cet événement a permis aux acteurs de l'industrie photonique et au-delà de réseauter et d'échanger sur des sujets variés. Comme toujours, ce fut un grand succès !

We talk a lot about how precise our solutions are, but sometimes it can be difficult to picture the level of precision we’re able to reach.

This year at SPIE Photonics West we’re showcasing one of our new linear actuators that is able to move quickly in steps of two millimeters with an accuracy of ±1 micron.

This technology can be translated to any of our platforms, regardless of the application, to suit your requirements.
