Two weeks until AAOS 2026!

The world of orthopedics will gather in New Orleans from March 2nd to 6th to talk about advancements, exchange ideas, and catch up with the latest trends. As a leading provider of orthopedic instruments, we will obivously be part of the exhibition that starts on Tuesday March 3.

Big milestone for the MOONS project!

Late last year, the largest astronomy instrument ever built in the UK has left Edinburgh and is travelling 7'000 miles to the European Southern Observatory’s Paranal site in Chile, where it will be integrated on the Very Large Telescope.

MOONS (for Multi-Object Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph) is a new space exploration project that can capture images from up to 1'000 celestial objects at once, opening the way for breakthroughs in our knowledge of how galaxies form and evolve.

For MPS, this is a big moment, as no light would ever be captured without our fiber positioners in this project. 1'001 of our tiny systems are placed on the focal plane of the telescope and collect light from the sky, enabling MOONS to gather important information about our universe.

Grande étape pour le projet MOONS !

Début décembre, le plus grand instrument d’astronomie jamais construit au Royaume-Uni a quitté Edinburgh pour entamer un voyage de plus de 11'000 km vers l'Observatoire Européen Austral (ESO) au Chili, où il sera intégré au Very Large Telescope (VLT).

MOONS (Multi-Object Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph) est un spectrographe de nouvelle génération capable de capter la lumière de jusqu’à 1'000 objets célestes simultanément, ouvrant la voie à des avancées majeures sur la formation et l’évolution des galaxies.

Pour MPS Microsystems, c’est également un moment fort, puisque 1'001 de nos positionneurs de fibres miniatures font partie de ce projet. Placés sur la plaque focale, ils captent la lumière du ciel et l’acheminent vers l’instrument qui analyse ces données

Gathering the Swiss photonics industry across the pond

On Wednesday evening, the Swiss Apero took place at our booth at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco.

Organized conjointly with Swissmem photonics, Swissphotonics and Photonics Booster for the third year in a row, this event gave people from the photonics industry and beyond the opportunity to network and exchange on a range of topics. As always, it was a big success!

Mercredi soir a eu lieu Swiss Apero sur notre stand à la SPIE Photonics West à San Francisco.

Organisé conjointement avec Swissmem Photonics, Swissphotonics et Photonics Booster pour la troisième année consécutive, cet événement a permis aux acteurs de l'industrie photonique et au-delà de réseauter et d'échanger sur des sujets variés. Comme toujours, ce fut un grand succès !

We talk a lot about how precise our solutions are, but sometimes it can be difficult to picture the level of precision we’re able to reach.

This year at SPIE Photonics West we’re showcasing one of our new linear actuators that is able to move quickly in steps of two millimeters with an accuracy of ±1 micron.

This technology can be translated to any of our platforms, regardless of the application, to suit your requirements.

Nous parlons souvent de la précision de nos solutions, mais il peut parfois être difficile d’imaginer le niveau de précision que nous sommes capables d’atteindre.

Cette année à la SPIE Photonics West, nous présentons l’un de nos nouveaux actionneurs linéaires, capable de se déplacer rapidement par pas de deux millimètres avec une précision de ±1 micron.

Quel impact concret nos produits ont-ils sur le monde réel ? Voici un exemple fascinant. 🔭

Depuis Einstein, nous savons que la lumière se distord en passant près d'une masse importante. Lorsque la lumière d'une étoile passe à proximité d'un objet céleste massif, sa trajectoire est déviée, créant ainsi un chemin incurvé autour de l'objet. Pour approfondir notre connaissance du cosmos, les scientifiques cherchent désormais à comprendre comment le temps se distord à travers les vastes distances de l'univers.

Cela passe par l'observation d'étoiles, de galaxies et d'autres objets célestes très lointains. C'est ici que nos positionneurs de fibres entrent en jeu. Disposés par milliers sur le plan focal des plus grands télescopes, ils captent les particules de lumière provenant du ciel. Ever wondered what impact our products have in the real world? Here's a fascinating example. 🔭

Since Einstein, we know that light bends around mass. When the light of a star passes near a large celestial object, its trajectory is diverted, resulting in a curved path around the object. To further understand our cosmos, scientists are now trying to understand how time is distorted across vast distances in the universe.

This is done by looking at stars, galaxies and other celestial objects that are far, far away. This is where our fiber positioners come in. Arranged by the thousands on a focal plane inside a large telescope, they capture the light particles that come from the sky. Thanks to all this data, scientists can research subjects like dark energy, the expansion of the universe, and more.

Camille Bonvin, a cosmologist and professor at the University of Geneva, recently explained how all of this works. The story of Asma Jafari, our apprentice who recently who the silver medal at the Swiss Skills, is fascinating. She and her family left Afghanistan in 2016, and after stops in Turkey and Greece, they found a new home in Switzerland in 2019.
