Because of the corona pandemic, the Swiss bar robot Barney is more popular than ever. A robot bar can serve drinks and doesn't spread infections. Barney even disinfects his robotic arm himself. Contrary to popular belief, Barney bar is not a competitor of the classic human bartender. He is used, for example, in shopping centers or in places like train stations, where people don't want to organize a 24/7 operation.

Last week the news agency Reuters stopped by at our Barney bar in Zurich Oerlikon to enjoy a drink and get an impression of our robot bar Barney.

Barney is a bit different from your usual Swiss bartender. He is fully automated, mixes dozens of cocktails and even makes terrible jokes.

Cobots, a word composition from the term collaborative robots, are coming into the spotlight more and more. If industry experts are right, in just four years one in every second industrial robot will be a cobot (according to 's article from the 9th of April). F&P Robotics, who also sees a lot of potential in this niche, has been working on cobots for several years. Especially from the assistance robot Lio they expect great success.

Our assistant robot Lio made it onto the front page of the 27.03.2021 edition of the St. Galler Tagblatt! The article was praised throughout the entire eastern part of Switzerland in the weekend edition on pages 24-25 with the following headline: Patient, kind, never sick and never tired.

We are working every day to ensure that our assistance robot Lio can assist healthcare staff and provide better support for people in need of care.
Could you imagine being supported by a care robot if and at such times you needed it?

F&P Robotics is very pleased to be able to make a valuable contribution to this year's Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) 2021 SPRING SYMPOSIUM SERIES.

Originally planned last year, the symposium was postponed due to current circumstances. As a result, Alina Gasser, our psychologist and UX designer, as well as Prof. Dr. Oliver Bendel, Professor of Information Systems will now be speaking virtually on the topic of “Co-Robots as Care Robots”. The event starts today and will run until Tuesday.

Dear followers, friends and colleagues of F&P Robotics

It is difficult for us, but we have to inform you about a sad loss.

Our founder and CEO Dr. Hansruedi Früh passed away in February 2021 after a short illness. At the age of only 64, Hansruedi passed away too soon. With him we have lost an empathic and courageous visionary who will be greatly missed by his family, his friends and the company he founded.

The company F&P Robotics, which is named after him with "Früh und Partner", was much more than just a job for him. He was always convinced that robots have the potential to assist and serve humans. Growing up on a Swiss farm, he found his way to the natural sciences via a commercial apprenticeship and the adult baccalaureate. Already during his dissertation in the field of neurobiology, he was fascinated by the idea to create intelligent robots with the aid of neuronal networks.

During his time as a postdoc at the AI Lab of the University of Zurich and his further entrepreneurial career, he put his visions into practice. He evolved into a world-leading expert and entrepreneur in the field of intelligent and human-centric robotics. We are very proud to have accompanied him on his journey.

The F&P team, the board of directors and the shareholders would like to thank Hansruedi for everything and will continue to lead the company in his spirit with full commitment. His son Michael has taken over the position as CEO as his previous deputy. Together with a professionalized management team, he will lead the company into the next growth phase.

We thank you all very much for your support and condolences.

Our Robot Barney Bar Barney has been serving soft drinks and juices at Oman's most visited mall center since the end of December. The bar was implemented in Al Araimi Boulevard mall in the Capital of Muscat. The Boulevard is located in the up and coming Al Khoud area of Muscat, a stunning destination that allows one to explore new vistas of entertainment in the Sultanate.

Our customer is Mr. Mahmoud Al-Ghatrifi, the owner of the Brain Robot franchise. Through this franchise he is planning to expand and purchase more bars in Oman.

F&P Robotics proudly presented Barney in this exceptional environment. Barney is offering a completely autonomous, 24/7 service with a wide range of drinks. It is currently running the bar by itself but is also able to work together with a human bartender. Barney is an attraction and is sure to draw a crowd.

F&P Robotics is more than proud to share that now our co-edited book called “Pflegeroboter” from the publisher Oliver Bendel has more than 250.000 downloads! The collective work of all authors has become a standard reference work, 55 citations are displayed in the Springer Gabler publishing house alone. It is rewarding to have met the spirit of the times.
For those who still haven't had enough: A new book focusing on social robots with a chapter by F&P will follow at the end of this year 2021.

In its new audio report "Artificial Intelligence and Morality", Swiss Radio SRF News has devoted itself to the exciting topic of machine ethics. Technical conditions are getting better and better, but on what basis are decisions made in machines? Can a robot recognise human emotions or even attain consciousness?
