As we approach the holiday season, we would like to share an important update. Our Haag-Streit office in Köniz, Switzerland will be closed from December 24 through January 4, and will reopen on January 5.

Out of hundreds of submissions received for this year’s “Slit Lamp Imaging Competition” – spanning both images and videos – this stunning image captured on the BX 900 from Abhidip Biswas, Disha Eye Hospitals, India, earned a place among our top ten. This image of a rosette cataract stands out as a beautifully documented clinical moment.

Well done on achieving a finalist position in such a competitive field!

The year may be closing fast, but our hardworking team doesn’t slow down. This weekend, Area Sales Manager Chris Chong, in partnership with Clinico Group (科林集團), proudly represented Haag-Streit at The 66th Annual Meeting of the Ophthalmological Society of Taiwan: 2025 Cross-Strait Eye Forum in Taipei.

The “Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2025” once again demonstrated how varied and insightful ophthalmic imaging can be, with submissions coming from clinicians across a wide range of settings.

Displayed here is one of this year’s finalist entries from Sean Grout of the CPMC Ophthalmology Department, USA – an image showing Rhopressa-related honeycomb edema, captured on the Haag-Streit BX 900 slit lamp. Congratulations to Sean for making our top ten!

To mark the recent launch of the “Octopus Clinical Compendium”, we’re highlighting a study by the Compendium’s editor, Dr. Gábor Holló, illustrating one of the strengths of the Octopus: Cluster Analysis.

In his 2017 “British Journal of Ophthalmology” paper titled “Comparison of structure-function relationship between corresponding RNFL thickness and Octopus visual field cluster defect values determined by normal and tendency-oriented strategies,” Dr. Holló examined how visual field cluster defects correspond with sectoral RNFL thickness, comparing both the Normal and TOP strategies.

Key findings:
• Both strategies demonstrated moderate-to-strong structure-function correlations across all 10 manufacturer-provided clusters
• TOP performed comparably to the Normal strategy, supporting its use for structure-function assessment in routine practice.

This work reinforces the clinical value of Octopus Cluster Analysis and highlights why it remains a powerful tool in glaucoma assessment.
