The choice of an appropriate pulling harness plays a crucial role in a dog’s physical health and performance.
In physiotherapy practice, many dogs present with dysfunctions that can be directly linked to poorly fitted harnesses, with problem patterns matching the areas affected by pressure or restriction.
Despite this, pulling harnesses are often used without proper fitting or professional assessment. Dogs are expected to “grow into” oversized equipment, identical harness models are used for entire teams due to sponsorship agreements or aesthetic preferences, or purchasing decisions are driven by social media trends such as limited-edition colors rather than functional suitability.
A pulling harness is as individual as a pair of running shoes.
Just as ill-fitting footwear inevitably leads to physical problems, equipment that does not fit correctly can cause long-term damage. No child would intentionally be placed in oversized shoes simply to avoid buying a new pair a few months later (hopefully)— and the same principle should apply when selecting equipment for dogs.
Our dogs deserve to be treated as the top athletes they are and should always be provided with the best fitting equipement!
