Sarcoidosis doesn’t only affect adults. Children can develop it too, though it’s rare.

In young children, symptoms often include skin rashes, joint inflammation and eye problems.

Older children may show symptoms similar to adults, such as joint pain, muscle weakness, painful nodules and bone changes.

Because childhood sarcoidosis is uncommon, diagnosis can be challenging, and increasing awareness truly makes a difference.

World Sarcoidosis Day is raising awareness of a complex inflammatory disease in which small clusters of immune cells, called granulomas, form in different organs — most commonly the lungs and lymph nodes.
