World Glaucoma Week is a global initiative organized by the World Glaucoma Association to raise awareness about glaucoma.
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness.
At the current time (2025) there are about 80 million people worldwide with glaucoma. By the year 2040, it is estimated that 22 million individuals worldwide will be blind from glaucoma.
Most people with glaucoma are not aware of it: most glaucoma patients have zero symptoms.
The goal is to alert everyone to have regular eye and optic nerve checks to detect glaucoma as early as possible because there are available treatments for all forms of glaucoma to prevent visual loss.
Early diagnosis is key to slow down the irreversible damage caused by glaucoma. Catch the disease early and you have a great chance of preserving your vision for the years to come.
Make sure to have an eye exam regularly!
