Speech-to-text can have a place as a supportive tool, but it should never replace intervention. For children with language and writing difficulties, foundational instruction in handwriting, typing, sentence formulation, and planning must come first

Developmental Language Disorder often called DLD, is not a problem with intelligence.

There is lots of great information about DLD available now. This article by international experts, Karla McGregor and Tiffany Hogan provides a thorough introduction. Particularly suited to teachers as it focuses on how DLD presents in school, but lots of great points for everyone. So please share it widely, but particularly with any teachers you know!

This paragraph is one to remind others of too:

'DLD is not a problem with intelligence. We often gauge intelligence through the words and sentences children use and understand. However, language and intelligence are not synonymous. Children with DLD show a range of individual differences in nonverbal and emotional intelligence.'
