We were proud to present at the Coalition for Global Hearing Health (CGHH) Conference in Boston, bringing together experts dedicated to improving ear and hearing health in low- and middle-income communities.

Our presentation, “Leveraging Hearing Aid Data to Strengthen Pediatric Fittings,” shared insights from our pilot project exploring how real-world hearing aid data can help identify clinical skill gaps and guide targeted training for local providers.

By combining technology, data, and capacity development, Hear the World Foundation aims to close critical service gaps, support professional growth among hearing care professionals, and improve developmental outcomes for children with hearing loss around the world.

It was inspiring to exchange ideas with global partners like Audra Renyi (World Wide Hearing), Dr. Diego Santana-Hernández (CBM), and Dr. Racheal Hapunda (Zambia), all working toward the same goal, bridging the gap in pediatric hearing care.

We’re inspired by a group of students in the U.S. who came together to host the Music for All Charity Event, a vibrant celebration of music and dance in support of our project partners in India, Society to Aid the Hearing Impaired (SAHI).

Through inspiring performances from violin recitals to dance showcases, students raised USD 1,800 to benefit SAHI and the Vikasam Seva Foundation in Bantwal, Karnataka.

This initiative is a powerful example of youth engagement in action, by combining creativity with compassion, these young changemakers are amplifying awareness of hearing health while learning the value of empathy and inclusion.

When Dr. Doreen Mulenga was just ten, her grandmother told her she had given birth to 13 children, all at home, without medical assistance. That moment sparked a lifelong calling, to make sure women and children everywhere can access safe, quality health care.

After 25 years in international public health, including leading major UNICEF programs to protect mothers and children, Dr, Mulenga now lends her expertise to the Hear the World Foundation Advisory Board on a voluntary basis. Her focus? Reaching the most vulnerable, especially children with hearing loss who might otherwise be left behind.

Our Hear the World Foundation team recently visited Kwale, Kenya to meet with our partners at Sense International Kenya, seeing firsthand the impact of hearing care in the community.

During this trip, families opened up about their journey from discovering their child’s hearing loss to seeing how care has changed their lives. They also met the amazing clinical screeners, a unique group of clinical officers, nurses, physical therapists, and occupational therapists who rotate to provide hearing screenings for children twice a month at local hospitals.

Such powerful stories that remind us why early access to hearing care matters!

From endless roads to the kindness of strangers, Tom Wilson’s bike ride across the U.S. was filled with grit, hope, and purpose. 🚴‍♂️💛

Over 6,000 kilometers, he pedaled coast to coast, raising funds for the Hear the World Foundation to support children with hearing loss. Having experienced hearing loss himself, Tom knows how life-changing access to hearing care can be.

This week we have had the pleasure of welcoming our project partners from El Salvador, India, and Jordan, here in Switzerland to participate in various clinical training sessions. The group recently took part in an ABR and ASSR training course at the University of Zurich Hospital, kindly led by our Advisory Board member, Dr. Dorothe Veraguth.

Throughout the day, participants gained hands-on knowledge and exchanged experiences around key topics, including:
- Screening for hearing loss in babies by ABR
- Threshold measurement by ABR & ASSR (principles, best practice, interpretation & reporting)
- ABR with different stimuli
- Along with practical sessions & case studies

This training marks an important step in equipping our partners with advanced expertise to strengthen hearing care services in their countries.

👂Did you know? Hearing loss in Jordan is more common than the global average.

Thanks to the collaboration of our partners at the Jordan University Hospital and the Jordan University of Science and Technology their published research in the non-profit journal, PLOS One, is shedding light on the prevalence and nature of hearing loss across Jordan.

Their findings highlight need to shape hearing related programs to better prevent, diagnose, and treat hearing loss for children and families in Jordan.

Mariana Maggio, Hear the World volunteer and Senior Specialist in Auditory Rehabilitation and Pediatrics at Sonova Spain, visited our project partners in Oaxaca Mexico, Centro Audicion Coral Oaxaca (CORAL), and delivered in-depth training on Visual Reinforcement Audiometry and Conditioned Play Audiometry.

The training brought together four audioprotesists and two speech-language pathologists from the CORAL team in an interactive, hands-on learning environment focused on both theory and practical application. Mariana also introduced tools for assessing functional hearing capacity and shared valuable bibliographic materials to support ongoing professional growth.

This impactful visit is another example of how knowledge sharing and global partnerships can improve access to quality hearing care for children.

We recently facilitated a dynamic exchange between our partners, Jordan University of Science and Technology JUST and Oír Para Crecer from Peru, which focused on implementing and scaling school hearing screening programs.

Both teams shared their experiences, common challenges, and offered practical recommendations, all with the shared goal of expanding access to hearing care for children in their respective countries.

Their efforts are helping to drive national level conversations where school-based hearing screening is not yet widely available. The country contexts in Jordan and Peru are vastly different, and successful implementation requires tailored frameworks, strong local leadership, and the ability to identify key allies and stakeholders who can champion change.

A special thank you to our advisory board members who joined the exchange to offer thoughtful guidance on this topic!

In India, our project partner Society to Aid the Hearing Impaired (SAHI) is working to raise awareness about hearing loss through its youth engagement program, SAHI Youth Wing.

Pragya, a high school student and passionate volunteer of SAHI felt inspired to make a difference and launched Henna for Hope. Setting up a small stall in her community, Pragya created beautiful mehndi (henna) designs to fundraise for children with hearing loss in her community.

“It felt great to use a skill I enjoy to support a good cause,” says Pragya. “It was tiring but worth it! Seeing people happy with their henna and knowing it was helping children made it a rewarding and memorable experience.”

Through SAHI Youth Wing, young people like Pragya gain hands-on experience in advocacy, community outreach, and fundraising all while helping spread awareness of hearing health beyond clinical settings.

In 2019, the Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss (GFCHL) collaborated with Hear the World Foundation to donate cochlear implants and habilitation support to 10 young children in Vietnam.

Lam was received his cochlear implant (CI), donated by Hear the World, through this program when he was just 3 years old. Over the next several years, his family worked closely with therapists who were trained by the GFCHL in auditory-verbal therapy. Together, they helped Lam use his CI to develop listening and spoken language skills.

Lam is now 9 years old! He has outstanding speech and vocabulary and is among the top students in his mainstream fourth grade class.
