Many workdays begin with a coffee and a croissant, especially here in Europe. ☕🥐
It feels harmless.

This is how it usually goes:
Blood sugar spike 📈
Crash 📉
Cravings 🍫
More caffeine ☕
Even bigger crash.

The good news?

You can start slow.

One simple upgrade, like adding 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐬 in the morning, may make your energy feel much steadier all day.

We talk a lot about what to eat for stable energy.
But we rarely talk about 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐭.

If lunch happens mid-conversation with your boss on Teams or via email, it’s safe to say your body is probably still in work mode, not digestion mode.

When we eat stressed, distracted or rushed, the body doesn’t fully shift into “rest and digest.”
That can affect blood sugar regulation and how steady our energy feels afterwards.

For a long time, this was what lunch looked like for me.

Something quick.
Something eaten between meetings.
Something I told myself was “𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨.”

And then straight back to emails.

I used to tell myself it was okay to push through without pausing to eat properly.
Workdays get busy. Meetings pile up. You want to do your best.

I didn’t realise that constantly rushing meals or barely eating at all was quietly setting me up for low energy, brain fog and afternoon crashes.

Not only did I feel worse…
simple tasks started taking longer.
focus was harder to hold.
everything felt more effortful than it needed to be.

I eventually realised that 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐞𝐥, and a calm moment to actually digest and use it.

Once I started slowing down and building real meals into the workday, my energy shifted more than any extra coffee ever did.

Small habits.
Big difference.

Most afternoon slumps don’t start with “𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥.”

They start with trying to push through it.

Another coffee.
Then another.
And sometimes another.

It feels like it helps - for a moment.

But coffee stacked on stress and low fuel often makes the energy crash even worse.
Cortisol spikes.
Energy jumps.
Then drops harder.

And suddenly you’re more tired than before.

𝘊𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘦 𝘪𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘣𝘢𝘥.
But when it becomes the main energy strategy, it usually backfires.

The real fix is supporting the body underneath the fatigue.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀.

The afternoon crash often starts 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐫.

If your morning begins with coffee and quick carbs, your blood sugar rises fast and falls fast. 📉

That fall is what shows up later as:
• brain fog
• low energy
• strong cravings
• and yes… another coffee ☕

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘵.

Sometimes one simple shift, like adding protein at breakfast, can completely change how steady your energy feels.

Small habit. Big ripple effect.

Most of us like to blame the afternoon slump on being “busy”, “stressed”, or just “tired” 😴

Sometimes we even wear exhaustion like a badge of honour.

But very often, what feels like just being tired is actually driven by how our blood sugar moves throughout the day especially after breakfast, lunch and coffee ☕

Big spikes can lead to big crashes 📉

And those crashes usually show up as low energy, brain fog, can’t focus at all 🧠 and strong snack cravings in the afternoon.

You know the ones.
“Just one cookie” 🍪
“Just a piece of chocolate”
Or maybe another coffee ☕ (even though you’ve already had three).

The good news is you don’t need a perfect diet to fix this.
Just a few smarter workday habits can make a big difference.

I’ll share some of my favourite practical tips in the next posts.

👉 Have you noticed certain lunches or days make the afternoon worse?

Last week at work, right around 3pm, I overheard a colleague say:

“I need a cookie. I’ve tried to fight it, really… but I NEED a cookie.”

And honestly, that moment sums up what I see everywhere.

For many of us working in an office, the tiredness already starts in the morning, gets worse by mid-afternoon, and then turns into that strange wired-but-tired feeling in the evening.

It’s not laziness.
It’s not lack of discipline.

It’s driven by underlying things we usually pay little to no attention to: blood sugar swings, coffee timing, stress hormones, and the way our workday habits are set up.

Under the “wrong” circumstances, that 3pm cookie craving actually makes a lot of sense biologically.

The good news?

Small changes during the day can completely shift how your energy feels (and those cravings too).

I’ll break this down in the next posts in a very practical way.

👉 Does this happen to you around 3pm as well?

Let me say this again. You 𝔻𝕆ℕ’𝕋 have to be 𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕗𝕖𝕔𝕥 to have your eczema under control. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Let’s start with the facts. Eczema is a chronic illness. This means, it has developed over some time and most likely it is here to stay unless managed. And that’s where the exciting stuff comes in, it CAN be managed, but the bad news is that it’s not like a headache.. you pop a pill and soon it’s gone. It requires continuous management and understanding of the whys which I teach in my 12 week program. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
To me the worst wasn’t having eczema (which is bad enough in and of itself), it was feeling absolutely out of my depth and without a way out. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It is simply NOT possible to eat and exercise the right way all the time or to do countless yoga and meditation sessions. Life gets busy and stressful sometimes and I am guilty as charged of falling off the bandwagon every now and then. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Do I still get eczema? Yes, when things get totally out of control (like right now). ⁣⁣
Do I know how to fix it? HELL YEAH!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If you are a control freak like me, and even if you are not, having control over your symptoms and knowing that IT’S OK to have eczema emerge every now and then is PRICELESS. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I just take a deep breath, get into my routine and get my body back into balance. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Tell me in the comments what you find the most frustrating about having eczema.⁣⁣

The skin is our largest organ and it's the layer that’s practically separating us from the environment. It is our first line of defense. ⁣

What you put on your skin, gets absorbed into the bloodstream and becomes.. Well.. YOU!⁣
If you have dry skin, your skin is really thirsty and drinks up what you put on it. ⁣

Your body is a miracle. It is working 24/7 to get rid of harmful substances that you eat, breathe or that you expose yourself to while you are innocently washing your hair or moisturising, but it has its limits. Most of the conventional personal hygiene products are packed with chemicals that disturb the skin’s healthy ecosystem. ⁣

If you have eczema, your skin is already compromised and it is especially advised to avoid these chemicals and to switch to natural personal hygiene products. ⁣

I am ALWAYS busy! Does this sound familiar? Aren’t we all?⁣ ⁣ I don’t think I have had a moment of ‘freedom’ since I started my studies in nutrition. ⁣

I had a super stressful job in finance too. I was always wired, but honestly, there just wasn’t another way to achieve my dream of helping others with the power of food so I worked and still work my off!⁣

But the stress of it made my eczema to flare up CONSTANTLY. I knew very well that it was stress, yet I didn’t do ANYTHING about it.⁣

I know that you too have priorities, may it be work, family or to pursue dreams of your own. Perhaps ‘all of the above’. ⁣ ⁣ In today’s world we don’t just sit around, we work hard and play even harder.⁣

But what about REST? That seems to be completely off the table nowadays.⁣

Your body and soul needs rest to rid itself from tension and lower stress hormones such as cortisol, which is a major aggravator of eczema. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣

I have learned it the hard way that the only way to get rest is to schedule it in. I make rest a to-do, otherwise there may never be a good time to rest. ⁣ ⁣ Rest is not something you need to deserve, you don’t have to work for it. ⁣

Simply rest because you make it a priority to look after yourself and your skin.⁣

It’s Stressless Skin Sunday!⁣

Today I went for a walk and marvelled at the beautiful lake views around me. It always calms me to look at water. ⁣

I hope you have an amazing stressless Sunday too. ⁣
