Hi, it's me Karin 😀how I started my yoga journey?

In 2016 I felt really exhausted. I had this fantastic new job and gave my everything to pull it off. First, it seemed to work out, I was very successful and was able to live up to all the expectations people had on me. But then we went to New Zealand for a longer vacation and my body felt so bad. I had trouble with digestion and just felt tired. So I decided to do yoga, not to achieve any goal. I wanted to do it for myself with no expectations. I bought a quite expensive mat before the first class as a commitment. And I stuck with it.

Yoga is a journey. It is more than simply stringing together poses. Patanjali spoke of the eight limbs of yoga in his Yoga Sutras. These are about social ethics, self-discipline, poses, breathing, mindfulness, concentration, meditation and enlightenment. Only those who practise these eight things can rise above life and death.

In our world today, this may sound old or distant. But whenever I allow myself a moment of silence and notice how we in our world spin on the hamster wheel, I feel the wisdom in the ancient texts. What are we striving for in our lives? Money? Recognition? Power?

Or is it much more about finding peace within ourselves. This peace is within us and is waiting to be discovered.

Handstand is my passion. I look forward to every training session. Many people ask me: what do you actually do for an hour in handstand training? Of course I practice the handstand, but in very different ways. Different leg formations, different postures of the head (like here in the picture, I'm looking up - very scary...) or different ways to jump into the handstand. I also build strength and muscle memory, train the core, the legs, the shoulders. An hour goes by sooo fast.

A little Chaturanga-Story...

When I started yoga I was obsessed with chaturanga. I thought it was such a nice transition in the flows. It always looked so elegant with the teachers and the other students. Soon I also dared to do the chaturangas and was amazed that I could keep my body above the floor. What I didn't realise was that my shoulders were much too low, my buttocks too high and my shoulder joint was holding me instead of my muscle strength.

I kept doing the chaturangas like this because slowly my body got used to this wrong alignment. It was only when I did my first teacher training that my trainer took a photo of my chaturanga and showed it to me. I was shocked, it didn't look like that in my head.

That's when I started to look seriously at this transition and learnt the alignment all over again. Today I know many tips and tricks on how to learn a good chaturanga.
