Have you ever seen a nalca leaf this large? The nalca is a plant that is native to southern Chile. The stalk can be peeled and eaten raw (usually with some lemon and salt) and tastes like a cross between rhubarb and celery. The leaves aren’t edible, but they’re often used as a wrapper for food cooked in outdoor fire pits.

During our adventure we have the privilege of visiting , a special area that has been privately conserved to study, protect, and learn from an incredible area at the base of (a local volcano that erupted six years ago). We’re accompanied by knowledgeable local guides like , who share their knowledge of the flora and fauna with us.

Diving into the world of online yoga and recorded classes has been a huge challenge for me and for my students this year. So many of the things that I love about teaching yoga - the energy in the room, life chats before and after class, being present for breakthroughs, watching lightbulbs go off in heads when things click, and hugs, among other things - can’t be transmitted through a screen.

But I’ve learned A LOT too. I’ve learned to have more intention with my word choice and to communicate in a way that allows for more self-correction. I’ve improved my ability to hold a pose, talk, and pretend to breathe at the same time (can’t just sit and watch you guys anymore when I’m the only one on the camera 🙄). I’ve learned that filming an online series takes hours and hours and hours, and then it’s still not done.

I’ve also learned that humans are extremely adaptable. We don’t love online yoga. But it’s what we’ve got right now.

That being said - I miss you guys! Please feel free to reach out and let me know how you’re doing, say hi, tell me about all the yoga you’ve been doing (or not been doing), or ask any nagging questions you have!

A year ago now, we were celebrating the arrival of a New Year with this group of adventurers during one of our - this year was celebrated a bit differently, and next year... next year who knows?! There’s a world of possibility before us!

En este momento el año pasado, estábamos celebrando la llegada de un año nuevo con este grupo de aventureros en uno de nuestros - este año celebramos de una forma muy distinta del año pasado, y el año que viene... quién sabe?! Hay un mundo de posibilidades que tenemos por delante!

Feliz solsticio! Hoy empezamos con un nuevo ciclo... en el hemisferio sur, celebramos la llegada del verano, y en el hemisferio norte, celebramos la llegada del invierno. No importa dónde estás en el mundo en este momento - hay algo para celebrar!

Solsticio de verano: “Todo es verde y en crecimiento, el potencial de llegar a ser, el milagro de la manifestación pintado grande en el lienzo de la conciencia.”

Solsticio de invierno: “Cuando la oscuridad es más fuerte que la luz y el invierno comienza en el hemisferio norte, este es el renacimiento del sol. Marca nuevos comienzos y honramos la luz dentro de nosotros. Es el día más oscuro del año y parece que el sol está parado en el cielo. Este es el momento de ir a nuestro interior y reflexionar.”

Someone asked me the other day if doing a lot of was bad for skiers, because being too flexible can make you more prone to injuries.

It’s true that making drastic changes to ONLY your range of motion can cause problems. It’s important to build the opposite - strength - as well.

Yoga doesn’t have to be purely about getting more “bendy” and “stretchy.” There are so many yoga techniques that will help you build BOTH AND , so that you maintain balance.

To take the idea one step further - poses and techniques that create strength and flexibility SIMULTANEOUSLY are even better. Focusing on activation during your stretches can not only help reduce the risk of over-stretching and injuring yourself while practicing yoga, but also builds the strength, flexibility, AND stability that can help you continue to pursue the sports that you love.

To put it simply: No, too much yoga isn’t bad. Yes, too much passive stretching and emphasis on flexibility WITHOUT creating the strength and stability to match it can cause problems!

This is Jim. He’s a pro athlete. He can’t really touch his toes. Every time he leaves the house, he’s in danger of blowing all of his vertebrae and/or both knees. Don’t be like Jim.
But seriously. How have you been preparing for the change of seasons and the sports you’re excitedly anticipating? Are you strengthening stabilizing muscles that will protect your joints? Are you lengthening and releasing muscles that have been overworked this summer?

Lelikelen, que en Mapudungun significa "Abrir los ojos," es un lugar en Ensenada para personas que buscan bienestar. A través de clases de yoga, workshops (talleres), y retiros, damos el espacio para fortalecer cuerpo, alma, y mente. También formamos alianzas con la comunidad para que ofrezcan sus productos dentro de la línea natural y saludable. Lelikelen no es solo un centro de yoga, sino un espacio para las personas que buscan mejorar la calidad de vida.

Nuestro propósito es que las clases, el conocimiento y los productos necesarios para ser fuerte, resistente y energético, esten siempre accesibles a todo el que quiera.
