Today, on World Cerebral Palsy Day, we celebrate a global community of over 17 million people who are . We stand together to recognize the individuality and strength of every person living with cerebral palsy.

No two people with cerebral palsy (CP) are the same. It is a group of conditions that affects movement and coordination, but its impact varies widely. For some, it might mean using a wheelchair, while for others, it could affect speech, balance, or fine motor skills. Yet, every person with CP is defined not by their diagnosis, but by their unique personality, talents, and spirit.
Today is about raising our collective voice to drive real, positive change.
It’s a day to:
Raise awareness: To foster a deeper understanding of CP, challenging stereotypes, and highlighting the vibrant lives within the community.
Promote inclusion: To advocate for equal opportunities in education, employment, and community life.
Push for innovation: To accelerate research and access to technologies, like assistive devices and therapies, that can improve quality of life.
We are so much stronger when we are united. By sharing our stories, celebrating our differences, and working toward a more accessible and equitable world, we show that our unity is our greatest strength.

This World CP Day, here’s how you can take action:
Educate yourself and others. Learn more about cerebral palsy and the experiences of those who have it.
Use the hashtags and to share your story or a message of support.
Support organizations like the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), and local chapters that advocate for research and rights.
Let's show the world that while we are all unique, we are also powerfully united.

I sat at my desk, staring blankly at the microscope in front of me. My mind began to wander, and I found myself daydreaming about all the amazing things I could do with a medical laboratory technology degree.

"If only I had the money," I thought to myself, "I could start my own medical testing center. Or maybe even a genetic testing service. The possibilities are endless!" I imagined myself as a successful entrepreneur, running my own business and making a real difference in people's lives.

As I sat there, my mind started racing with ideas. "I could offer bioinformatics services, analyzing complex biological data to help researchers and clinicians make informed decisions. Or maybe even develop AI-driven diagnostic tools for early disease detection." The more I thought about it, the more excited I became.

But then reality set in. "Yeah, right," I thought, chuckling to myself. "Like I have the funds to make any of those things happen." I sighed and refocused on my work, but my mind kept drifting back to all the what-ifs.

What if I could acquire some additional skills, like repairing medical equipment or developing health and wellness apps? What if I could create my own telemedicine platform or medical records management system? The possibilities seemed endless, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration that I couldn't pursue them all.

As I worked, I couldn't shake the feeling that there must be more to life than just running tests and analyzing samples. I wanted to make a bigger impact, to use my skills to change the world. And who knows? Maybe someday I'll find a way to make it happen. 💡

For now, I'll just keep dreaming... and maybe, just maybe, one day those dreams will become a reality. 🌟

I smiled to myself, feeling a sense of hope and determination. Who knows what the future holds? Maybe someday I'll be running my own medical testing center or developing life-changing medical technology. The possibilities are endless.

Managing Risk with Operation Research: A Fish Pie Seller's Story 🐟📊

Hey friends! 👋 Let's talk about Operation Research (OR) and how it can help small business owners like my sister, Akua, who sells delicious fish pies in our local market in Cameroon 🇨🇲.

The Challenge: Managing Inventory Risk 🍽️
Akua needs to decide how many fish pies to prepare each day. If she prepares too many, she'll be left with unsold pies that might go to waste. If she prepares too few, she'll miss out on potential sales. 🤔

The OR Solution: Using Data to Make Informed Decisions 📊
We used OR techniques like forecasting and inventory management models to analyze Akua's sales data and predict demand. 📈 We considered factors like day of the week, weather, and local events that might affect sales.

The Results: Reduced Waste and Increased Sales 📊
By using OR, Akua was able to:

- Reduce unsold pies by 20%
- Increase sales by 15%
- Make informed decisions about inventory and pricing

How can OR help your business or organization? 🤔
Whether you're a small business owner or a manager in a large organization, OR can help you make data-driven decisions and manage risk. 💡

Let's discuss! 💬
Share your own experiences with managing risk in your business or organization. How do you use data to make informed decisions? 💬

My dad... he was a stubborn one, always doing things his own way. I remember when he was diagnosed with liver cancer, the doctors prescribed medications and told him to take them regularly. But my dad, he would often forget or neglect to take them. I'd find the pills sitting on the counter, untouched.

And it wasn't just the medication. He loved fried foods, especially fried plantains. The doctors would tell him to avoid them, but he'd just shrug it off and indulge anyway. I knew he loved those foods, but I also knew that they weren't doing him any favors.

As I watched my dad's health decline, I couldn't help but wonder... what if? What if he'd taken his medications as prescribed? What if he'd listened to the doctors' advice about his diet?

It's hard not to think about what could've been. My dad was only 38 when he passed away, leaving behind a family that loved him dearly. But in the midst of grief, I've found solace in learning about medical physics.

Medical physics is like being a detective... these scientists and professionals are working tirelessly to understand the intricacies of the human body and develop new treatments for diseases like cancer. They're using cutting-edge technology and innovative techniques to target cancer cells with precision and minimize damage to healthy tissue.

If you're facing a health challenge like my dad did, know that you're not alone. There are dedicated professionals working behind the scenes to help you fight back. And if you're a healthcare professional, know that your work is making a difference in people's lives.

To anyone who's lost a loved one to cancer, I feel your pain. But let's honor their memory by spreading awareness about the importance of medical research and the incredible work being done in medical physics.

My dad... he was a strong man, a military veteran who served with honor. But when he started showing signs of liver cancer - the yellowing of his skin and eyes, the fatigue... I wish I'd known more about the disease back then.

He'd come home, get treated, and then go back to the military camp. I wouldn't see him again until... until it was too late. The late stage of liver cancer is a harsh reality, and I don't wish it on anyone.

Looking back, I realize that those early signs were a warning, a chance for us to catch the disease before it progressed. But we didn't know, and now my dad is gone. He was only 38, and his passing left a gaping hole in our lives.

Medical physics is a field that's close to my heart now. The work that medical physicists do, using physics to develop new treatments and technologies... it's groundbreaking. They're like master puzzle-solvers, figuring out ways to target cancer cells with precision and minimize damage to healthy tissue.

If you're experiencing any unusual symptoms, don't ignore them. Don't neglect the early signs of liver cancer. Get checked out, get treated, and take care of yourself. It's not worth the risk of losing precious time.

To anyone who's lost a loved one to cancer, I feel your pain. But let's honor their memory by spreading awareness about the importance of early detection and medical research.

Let's support the researchers, scientists, and healthcare professionals who are working tirelessly to find new treatments and cures. And let's take care of ourselves, too - our bodies are worth it.

I still remember that night... my dad's military friend came over, and I watched as he cut off my dad's hair. It was a small moment, but it's etched in my memory forever. At just 7 years old, I didn't fully understand what was happening, but I knew my dad was fighting a tough battle against liver cancer.

Fast forward to today, and I'm still grappling with the loss of my dad at just 38 years old. But in the midst of grief, I've found solace in learning about medical physics. It's amazing to think about how this field is working to improve cancer treatments and give people more time with their loved ones.

Medical physics is like being a master puzzle-solver... these scientists and professionals are working tirelessly to ensure that radiation therapy and other treatments are delivered precisely and safely. They're the unsung heroes behind the scenes, using their knowledge of physics and biology to create personalized treatment plans that give patients the best possible chance of beating cancer.

If you're facing a cancer diagnosis like my dad did, know that there are dedicated professionals working behind the scenes to help you fight back. And if you're considering a career in medical physics... trust me, it's a field that's full of purpose and meaning.

To anyone who's lost a loved one to cancer, I feel your pain. But let's honor their memory by spreading awareness about the incredible work being done in medical physics. Let's support the researchers, scientists, and healthcare professionals who are working tirelessly to find new treatments and cures.

You know, my sister is a fish pie seller in our rural community, and I love watching her hustle. She's got a small business, but it's one she pours her heart and soul into. Sometimes, though, she ends up making more fish pies than she can sell... and let's just say we get to enjoy some delicious leftovers at home! 🍴

But seriously, this got me thinking about Operations Research (OR) and how it can help small business owners like my sister. OR is all about using math and analytics to make better decisions... and it's not just for big corporations! 🙅‍♀️

Imagine being able to predict demand for your products, manage inventory, and minimize waste. That's exactly what OR can do. By analyzing data and using techniques like forecasting and optimization, my sister could adjust her production to match demand, reducing the number of unsold fishpies.

For instance, she could use historical sales data to identify patterns and trends, like which days of the week are busiest or which types of fishpies are most popular. Armed with this knowledge, she could plan her production accordingly, ensuring she makes just the right amount of fishpies to meet demand.

It's not rocket science, but it does require some number-crunching and analysis. And the payoff? More efficient operations, reduced waste, and increased profits. Cha-ching! 💸

If you're a small business owner facing similar challenges, I'd love to hear from you! How do you manage inventory and predict demand? Let's chat in the comments below! 💬
