🌍 GHSS Empowers Youth through the Bafoussam Youth Innovation Challenge! 🚀

GHSS continues to inspire and empower young innovators across Cameroon through the Youth Innovation Challenge — with the Bafoussam edition held from November 19–21, 2025.

This exciting event brought together passionate young minds who showcased groundbreaking solutions in Agri-Tech, Digital Transformation, Health & Wellbeing, and the Green Economy. 🌱💡

From turning mushrooms into wine and biscuits 🍄 to solar-powered school bags ☀️📚, natural fertilizers, and digital tools converting content into sign language 🤟— the creativity was limitless!

Judges and regional authorities were impressed as participants pitched their ideas, with winners taking home cash prizes ranging from 500,000 to 5,000,000 FCFA. 🏆🎉

Beyond the competition, participants gained valuable insights from business experts on:
💼 Financial strategy & funding opportunities
🎯 Setting SMART goals
📈 Building scalable business models
💬 Mastering the art of pitching and leadership

These lessons equipped young entrepreneurs with the tools and confidence to grow their ideas and make lasting impact in their communities. 🙌

The Bafoussam challenge is part of GHSS’s mission to empower 15,000 young people across Cameroon, supported by funding from the MasterCard Foundation.

Following successful editions in Buea (August 28–30) and Douala (September 4–6), the journey continues — nurturing innovation, leadership, and sustainable growth for Cameroon’s youth.

GHSS Promotes Positive Masculinity in the Workplace

On October 22, 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) held its fourth advocacy workshop in Douala, focusing on gender inclusiveness and youth employability. The session brought together 27 participants, including institutional representatives and GHSS staff, to discuss positive masculinity and the role of men in combating gender-based violence and empowering women.

Through interactive discussions, participants explored the difference between positive and toxic masculinity, the power of education in shaping inclusive leadership, and the need to view men as allies in promoting gender equity. The workshop—part of the Education and Economic Empowerment Project (EEE-P) funded by the MasterCard Foundation—concluded with a survey to guide future sessions and strengthen ongoing advocacy efforts.

🌍 Amélioration des services de laboratoire : Ateliers sur la diffusion des directives de dépistage du VIH et de la Politique Nationale de Laboratoire

Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) a récemment organisé des ateliers dans plusieurs régions de mise en œuvre afin de promouvoir les Directives de dépistage du VIH et la Politique nationale des laboratoires, dans le cadre de l’initiative de l’Accord de coopération (CoAg).

Ces sessions ont réuni des professionnels de laboratoire, des prestataires de soins de santé et des parties prenantes pour renforcer la sensibilisation, harmoniser les pratiques et améliorer la qualité des services de laboratoire conformément aux normes nationales et internationales.

✅ Meilleure compréhension des normes nationales de laboratoire
✅ Coordination renforcée entre les laboratoires
✅ Engagement renouvelé à mettre en œuvre et à suivre le respect des directives

🌍 Enhancing Laboratory Services Nationwide

Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) recently held workshops across implementation regions to promote the HIV Testing Guidelines and National Laboratory Policy under the Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) initiative.

The sessions brought together laboratory professionals, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to strengthen awareness, harmonize practices, and enhance the quality of laboratory services in line with national and international standards.

✅ Stronger coordination among laboratories
✅ Renewed commitment to implement and monitor adherence

🚴‍♂️ Empowering Riders, Protecting Futures!

As part of the Education and Economic Empowerment Project (EEE-P), GHSS has equipped commercial motorcycle riders across all six project regions with essential protective gear — including helmets, raincoats, rain boots, and bike umbrellas.

These riders, enrolled under the Mini Employability Skills Training (Mini EST) program, now ride safer, prouder, and more confident on the road. This initiative goes beyond safety — it’s about dignity, self-reliance, and sustainable economic empowerment.

The feedback has been inspiring! Riders have expressed deep gratitude to GHSS and the MasterCard Foundation for this rare and life-changing opportunity — one that enhances not only their safety but also their visibility and professionalism in their communities.

This milestone is a strong step toward the EEE-P mission: empowering youth with the skills, tools, and opportunities to thrive socially and economically.

🌍 GHSS Strengthens Laboratory Management in DR Congo

Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) recently organized the second SLMTA (Strengthening Laboratory Management Toward Accreditation) workshop in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The training brought together 48 laboratory professionals from reference laboratories across Kinshasa, Haut-Katanga, and Lualaba, equipping them with essential skills to improve quality management systems and move their laboratories closer to ISO 15189 accreditation.

Held in Lubumbashi (Aug 25–28) and Kinshasa (Sept 8–12), this initiative was part of the PEPFAR-supported project, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with CDC DR Congo and the Directorate for Health Laboratories.

🌍 Empowering Lab Technicians in the DRC!

From September 22–24, 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) hosted a transformative training in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, to strengthen the technical capacity of medical biology laboratory technicians in preventive maintenance and equipment management.

The workshop equipped participants to apply ISO 15189 maintenance principles, plan and monitor maintenance activities, and manage equipment inventories with proper documentation for traceability.

Through hands-on sessions on essential lab instruments — from centrifuges and pipettes to biological safety cabinets and microscopes — technicians collaborated in working groups to build practical skills and peer learning.

By the end, participants were empowered to reduce equipment downtime, extend equipment lifespan, and improve test reliability — strengthening laboratory systems across the DRC. 💪🔬

🌍 Renforcement des capacités des techniciens de laboratoire en RDC !

Du 22 au 24 septembre 2025, Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) a organisé une formation transformative à Lubumbashi, en République Démocratique du Congo, visant à renforcer les compétences techniques des techniciens de biologie médicale en maintenance préventive et gestion des équipements.

Cet atelier a permis aux participants d’appliquer les principes de maintenance conformes à la norme ISO 15189, de planifier et suivre les activités de maintenance, et de mieux gérer les inventaires d’équipements grâce à une documentation rigoureuse et traçable.

À travers des sessions pratiques sur les instruments essentiels — centrifugeuses, pipettes, hottes de sécurité biologique, microscopes, etc. — les techniciens ont travaillé en groupes pour développer leurs compétences et favoriser l’apprentissage entre pairs.

À la fin de la formation, les participants étaient outillés pour réduire les temps d’arrêt des équipements, prolonger leur durée de vie et améliorer la fiabilité des résultats de tests, contribuant ainsi au renforcement des systèmes de laboratoire à travers la RDC. 💪🔬
