Over time, surgical incisions for Cesarean section have evolved from the traditional midline incision to the classical Pfannenstiel incision.

The advantage of this incision is purely for esthetic purposes when it comes to scar formation and visibility especially if the patient loves to expose the tummy.

But nonetheless, midline incisions are still being used nowadays especially in emergency situations when the baby is in distress with a decelerating heartbeat.
