Elizabeth Catholic General Hospital, Shisong makes the Institution a historic leader; however, longevity is not adequate to qualify for leadership. The Institution has gone through a lot of learning following its gradual growth and expansion. The Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis started the Institution as their first missionary initiative upon arrival from South Tyrol, Brixen (Italy). Since infant and maternal mortality at birth were so common at the time, the Sisters were more sensitive to maternity services. The first maternity of Shisong Hospital was a thatched building while cartoons were used for babies’ cots. Over the years, its services have become diverse and more specialized. Shisong Hospital that forms part of the health care system of the Tertiary Sisters of St. Francis in the Catholic Church in Cameroon, and operating in line with the National Health Policies, remains committed improving on the health care of the clients who come from various parts of the Cameroon and beyond. We are committed to preventive as well as to therapeutic care. In this regards, the Institution reaches out to Health Posts outside of its designated jurisdiction; such as Banten, Sabongida, Wvem, Wainamah, and Kouram. Within its Health Area, it attends to Kingomen and the Nso Palace. Our staff consists of Religious women, Religious men and the Lay faithful, persons of various religious backgrounds and nationalities, dedicated to “see and serve Christ in all by spending time to care” in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi; whereby:
