We're elated to announce the publication of our latest research in the World Health Organization (WHO) Bulletin, highlighting our innovative and screening model designed for developing countries - the . This achievement builds on Shomea's work since 2021, where we've successfully screened over 10,000 new-borns in multiple hospitals across Cameroon - Laquintinie Hospital in Douala, Bonassama District hospital, and Regional Hospitals and in 12 hospitals in the Northwest region of Cameroon, in partnership with ALDAC, Ministère de la Santé Publique du Cameroun and the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services.
We are confident that through this work, we can push for policy modification in order to have national new-born screening programs in accordance with the JCIH of 2019 and the World Health Organization (WHO)'s recommendations. This model is scalable to other countries through appropriate training that can be facilitated by Shomea .
A big shout out to the entire Shomea team and to our partners.

Do we take our for granted?

It’s one of the most precious gifts God has given us - yet we rarely stop to appreciate it… until it’s gone.

Some are born without this beautiful ability to hear the world - the laughter of loved ones, the melody of music, the call of a name. Others slowly lose it over time, sometimes without even realizing it.

But what if we could do more to protect this ?
Here are a few amazing ways to preserve your hearing:
* Avoid prolonged exposure to loud noise
* Keep headphone volume at safe levels
* Take listening breaks during noisy activities
* Avoid inserting objects (like cotton swabs) into your ears
* Get regular hearing check-ups, especially if you're at risk
* Screen children early - the earlier we detect, the better we protect!

At Shomea , we are on a mission to ensure early and of hearing impairment. Through free screenings, campaigns, and of health workers, we work to bring attention to what too often goes unnoticed.

🙏 Let’s cherish the gift of hearing. Let’s protect it.
And let’s support those who never had it in the first place.

🌍 World Hearing Day with *Shomea:* Protect Your Hearing for a Brighter Future! 🎧

This *World Hearing Day,* let’s come together to raise awareness about the importance of hearing care and preservation. At Shomea, we're dedicated to promoting healthy hearing habits that can last a lifetime. Here are some essential tips to keep your ears in top shape:

*Limit Exposure to Loud Noises:* Prolonged exposure to loud sounds can damage your hearing. Whenever possible, use ear protection in noisy environments, such as concerts, construction sites, or during recreational activities.

*Keep Volume at Safe Levels:* Whether you’re using headphones, earbuds, or your device’s speakers, maintain a volume level that’s comfortable and safe – ideally below 60% of the maximum volume for no more than 60 minutes at a time.

*Take Listening Breaks:* Give your ears a break if you’ve been listening to loud music or sounds for an extended period. Short breaks can help mitigate potential damage.

*Practice Good Ear Hygiene:* Gently clean your ears with a washcloth and avoid using cotton swabs, which can push wax deeper into the canal and cause blockages or damage.

*Schedule Regular Hearing Check-Ups:* Routine check-ups with a hearing care professional can help detect any changes in your hearing early on, ensuring you receive timely care and advice.

*Stay Informed and Educated:* Understanding the risks and signs of hearing loss is crucial. Be proactive in seeking information about hearing health and make it a priority in your wellness routine.

*Advocate for Sound Safety:* Encourage safe sound practices in your community, schools, and workplaces. Together, we can create a culture that values and protects hearing health.

On this World Hearing Day, let’s commit to caring for our hearing and supporting those around us. Share this post, check out our flyer, and spread the word about the importance of hearing health. Every small step counts towards a brighter auditory future!
