Last week the Government of Cameroon represented by MINADER and MINPMEESA with support from the Joint SDG Fund and the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, and in partnership with the United Nations system, officially launched the CONVERGEFOOD Joint Programme – an integrated initiative designed to:

✅ Strengthen agricultural value chains
✅ Expand access to finance
✅ Connect youth and female smallholder farmers and agri enterpreneurs to reliable, inclusive markets, particularly in underserved and last mile areas (Far North, Adamawa and East regions).

Launched alongside the implementation phase of the EU funded Scalable Success Model (SSM) project, this joint effort represents a significant step forward in accelerating food systems transformation across the country.

The United Nations General Assembly has declared the transatlantic slave trade the gravest crime against humanity.

In a resolution adopted this week, UN member countries highlight the horrors of slavery — millions of African men, women and children forcibly captured and trafficked in one of the largest systems of organized mass human exploitation in history.

The resolution calls for justice, human rights, dignity and healing — emphasising that reparations are a concrete step towards addressing historical wrongs and confronting the profound and lasting legacies of racism and inequality.

Last week, United Nations Cameroon Resident Coordinator Issa Sanogo, Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees Raouf Mazou and UNHCR Cameroon Representatve carried out a mission to the East region to engage directly with refugees and host communities. Listening to realities on the ground is essential to shaping lasting solutions.

During the mission, they met with the Governor, alongside MinRex and the Ministry of SMEs, to discuss strengthening refugee protection and advancing inclusion policies. These exchanges highlighted the importance of collaboration and the vital role of partners in building durable solutions for displaced populations.

Resident Coordinator, Issa Sanogo, witnessed inspiring opportunities for joint work: economic empowerment of refugees & host communities at the artisanal village, the UNHCR multipurpose centre offering synergies for UN agencies, and strong potential to deepen SDG localization & the HDP nexus in Mandjou.

Cameroon’s inclusion policies have already strengthened protection for thousands, yet needs remain. Continued support and joint efforts are key to ensuring lasting impact.
