🦴 Humeral Interlocking Nails — Precision Fixation for Optimal Healing

Humeral interlocking nails (IM nails) are an effective solution for humeral shaft fractures, including:

Transverse and short oblique fractures of the middle third

A- and B-type fractures below the humeral head

Surgical Technique Highlights:

Patient positioning: semi-seated with the arm hanging by the side for easy reduction and X-ray evaluation; forearm stabilized.

Fracture reduction: can often be achieved during guidewire or nail insertion, without preoperative manipulation.

Incision: upper third of the deltoid, avoiding axillary nerve injury.

Entry point: ~1 cm lateral to the medullary canal center at the humeral head.

Nail insertion: careful attention to locking hole alignment is critical. Lock the most distal holes first, then the proximal ones, checking each with a guidewire for accuracy.

Suitable for mid- and proximal humeral fractures, comminuted fractures, multi-segment fractures, and pathological fractures.
