Magic Three Beans Drink – Clears Heat and Relieves Dampness
This simple yet powerful remedy can help with conditions like fever, heatstroke, and hand-foot-mouth disease! Many people struggle with excessive internal heat and dampness, which we refer to as "damp-heat." Symptoms of damp-heat include:
Athlete's foot with redness, itching, and discharge.
Skin rashes that are itchy, red, and may break open, leaking yellow fluid, which worsens with heat.
Sticky, poorly-formed, foul-smelling stool, with a sensation of heat around the a**s after bowel movements.
A red tongue with thick yellow coating and teeth marks.
To clear heat and expel dampness, you can drink a red bean and coix seed soup, but another great option is the Three Beans Drink. Let's learn how to make this remedy!
Ingredients and Benefits
The Three Beans Drink has a long history and is known for its ability to clear heat, relieve dampness, generate fluids, quench thirst, and support liver and spleen health. Over time, there have been many variations of the recipe. Apart from its main functions, it can also address several other health issues.
Key Benefits:
For Fever: Useful for spring fevers or unexplained recurring fevers. If the fever is accompanied by indigestion in children, you can add 10g of medicinal soybeans to the recipe.
For Rash-Related Fever: If your child develops a fever from a rash, like hand-foot-mouth disease or chickenpox, reduce the amount of yellow beans by half and add 30g of adzuki beans.
For Reduced Urination: If your child is urinating less, add 10g of white flat beans or white kidney beans. If constipation or dry stools are an issue, add some lily bulbs.
For Sleep Issues: If your child has trouble sleeping and is restless, add one dried ume plum. For hand heat and irritability, add two lotus seeds with hearts.
For Seasonal Issues: This drink is perfect for low-grade fever in the spring, dampness in the summer, and dry mouth and nose in the fall.
For Virtual Fire Symptoms: If you're experiencing dry lips, sore throat, mouth ulcers, swollen gums, acne, or a red tongue with yellow coating, this drink can help clear internal heat.
For Viral Fevers: It has cooling properties and can help with fever symptoms from flu, hand-foot-mouth disease, herpespharyngitis, and tonsillitis.
Three Beans Drink Recipe:
For 1-year-olds: 20 yellow beans, 15 black beans, 15 green beans.
For 2-3-year-olds: 30 yellow beans, 20 black beans, 20 green beans.
For 3-5-year-olds: 50 yellow beans, 40 black beans, 40 green beans.
For 5 and above: Increase the amount slightly.
Add 3 bowls of water to the beans, bring to a boil, and then simmer on low heat until only one bowl of liquid remains. You can add some rock sugar to taste, but it’s optional.
Preparation:
Soak the beans in a clay pot for 20 minutes.
Boil for 50 minutes.
Add sugar to taste and drink the soup, but avoid eating the beans.
Precautions:
Beans are hard to digest and may cause bloating, so it’s best to drink the soup without eating the beans.
Since green beans are cooling, those with weak digestive systems should avoid overconsumption.
