When should you really use a suprapatellar tibial nail?
Not every tibial fracture needs the same approach.
But in the right indication, suprapatellar nailing offers major advantages:
✔ easier reduction in semi-extended position
✔ lower postoperative malalignment risk
✔ less anterior knee pain
✔ shorter fluoroscopy time
✔ easier workflow in polytrauma cases
Still, it’s not risk-free.
There are important concerns:
• cartilage injury
• infection risk
• implant removal complexity
So the real decision is not “new vs old.”
It’s right patient, right fracture, right technique.
