Fish feel and we do not need to eat them to get omega 3 fatty acids! Let's save the fish and our oceans!!

‘Seaganism’ is injustice. Ignoring the suffering fish face is injustice.

Did you know that fish are the most killed animals for humans to eat?

Justice extends to all beings and not just ones we deem cute or cuddly. Respect fish and all animals as the individuals that they are; live vegan!

Do fish feel pain?
"Scientists have discovered that fish have nerve structures that are anatomically very similar to those of humans and many other species of animals. Among these common structures are receptor cells called nociceptors, which are found throughout animals’ bodies and are activated by stimuli expected to cause damage to bodily tissues. Tellingly, some species of fish have upwards of 58 different nociceptors located in their lips alone.
As in human anatomy, these nociceptors are wired by nerve fibers to the central nervous system (the spinal cord and brain.) When the pain centers in the brain are activated by signals from the nociceptors, they trigger the body to respond to the potentially harmful or life threatening events that may be happening.
Fish anatomy is so complex that they have even evolved the same “pain-blocking” substances (endorphins) as humans."

Are fish aware?
-When exposed to toxins their heart rates increase and they take longer to resume feeding.
-Their perception and cognition often matches and exceeds that of other vertebrates. Some will even use tools.
-They like physical connections with other fish and like rubbing up against one another.
-Goldfish can remember an obstacle course a month later.
-They have free never endings that register pain and produce pain reducing substances like endorphins.
-They talk to each other with low frequency squeaks detectable only be technology. They also communicate using sign language.

Are fishing hooks harmful?
"The intense pressure of decompression that the fish experience when dragged from the deep ruptures their swim bladder, pops out their eyes, and pushes their esophagus and stomach out through their mouth."

What about 'catch and release'?
"The University of Maryland (Reiss, 2003) found that deep-hooking causes a third of the fish to die. The majority had sustained major internal damage to the heart, stomach or liver. Hooks in the tuna penetrated the abdominal cavity and gut, tore veins, and damaged livers Skomai,2002. There was also scraping of facial tissue, and extensive damage to eyes and their sockets. Blindness could result in death if the fish could no longer feed properly."

Is fishing sustainable?
"2048. That's when the world's oceans will be empty of fish, predicts an international team of ecologists and economists. The cause: the disappearance of species due to overfishing, pollution, habitat loss, and climate change."

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that we can develop due to insulin resistance. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that allows glucose (sugar) to enter our cells so it can be used as an energy source.

Risk factors for type 2 diabetes include a family history of diabetes, being overweight or obese, having a sedentary lifestyle, and the most important being a diet high in fat, especially animal products.

When we consume a diet high in fat, our muscles present a build-up of intramyocellular lipids which decrease insulin activity, causing us to have high levels of blood sugar (hypoglycemia) which can be dangerous for our arteries, nerves, kidneys, eyes, heart, etc.

Constituent parts of meat, dairy, and eggs that can contribute to the development of type 2 Diabetes include: Trans fatty acids, saturated fat, cholesterol, high concentrations of leucine, heme iron, sodium, nitrates, nitrites, nitrosamines, and glycotoxins.

It has been shown in scientific studies that transitioning to a whole food, plant-based diet, it is possible to reverse type 2 diabetes. This is not the case of everyone who does transition, however, after transitioning people do improve their quality of life, prevent sequelae such as blindness, neuropathic disease, amputation of limbs. Many people are able to reduce their insulin requirements or eliminate them altogether while preventing a myriad of other chronic diseases.

If you have type 2 diabetes, you might not need to be dependent on medications for the rest of your life. If you do not have diabetes, transitioning to a plant-based diet may prevent you from becoming diabetic.

So, what are you waiting for? Go vegan!
