Cacao Ritual · Full Moon Ceremony · Sound Healing

The pinnacle of the lunar cycle, the Full Moon elevates our energetic state, heightening our intuition, expanding our receptivity, and magnifying our emotions. It’s a time for introspection, emotional release, and spiritual growth, and also an extroverted time of celebration and communal connection. Doors open at 5:30 to welcome our group with a high-vibrational sound-scape, and smudging will be offered to clear our energy fields and move into sacred space. Our circle will begin at 6:00 with ritual cacao, connecting with its unique properties that elicit feelings of love, warmth, expansion, joy, and gratitude as we set our intention to open the heart, expand, and embody love. Our ceremony will reflect the tone of each month, and may include visualization, movement, mantra, writing, reflection, interpersonal engagement, and offering our intentions with candles, water, or an item at the altar. Then we will seal our experience in stillness with sound. The resonant frequencies and mellow vibrations invite deep relaxation and promote entrainment– heartrate and brainwaves tuning to their natural rhythms leaving us feeling centered and restored. These community circles are a wonderful opportunity for personal alignment each month, uplifting ourselves and each other in a safe and supportive sacred space.

“Abundance is a dance with reciprocity—what we can give, what we can share, and what we receive in the process”. (Terry Tempest Williams) Abundance is different from accumulation; abundance is dynamic, flowing exchange in generous, harmonious relationship. While there is no requirement around the monetary aspect of our exchange, all aspects of our circle are meant to promote a greater sense of authenticity, mutual support, expansion, and appreciation.

Inspired by ballet exercises and functional fitness training, these Barre workouts integrate coordination, balance, and breath with precise low-impact movements to build strength, stability, and endurance, and to develop body awareness and control. The routines target all areas, working arms, legs, core, and glutes to promote long, strong muscle while improving mobility, alignment, and posture. The constant conscious movement, which challenges the body without overload, supports hormonal balance, regulating stress and reducing cortisol. The sessions flow with intention and focus, creating a supportive environment that invites us to connect with our bodies, cultivate presence, and feel empowered in nurturing our wellbeing. Classes follow a clear structure–warm-up, main routine, and cool-down–with the strong beat of electronic music marking the rhythm and keeping our energy up. All levels are welcome; Adriana will guide modifications and progressions so that each person can be safe and confident no matter their abilities or needs. Classes may incorporate weights, resistance bands, exercise balls or sliders to support muscle activation and control while maintaining fluid movement. Participants may be barefoot or wear socks; please bring a mat for certain floor exercises.

WHERE & HOW TO FIND US: Coco Yoga & Wellness is not a business or location; it is a sangha—a community of people on a spiritual path—and a collective of independent contractors offering classes and sessions both in person and online. A shala space is available for community to convene, and to create online content, whether live-streaming or saved offerings. The shala is located at a private residence and is not open to the general public. Students and participants should communicate with instructors and facilitators around the details of their classes or gatherings to join. Please honor the privacy of the lower level living area, and plan to arrive by and depart from the street access and extended staircase. 🙏

Our April classes are confirmed, and we hope you’ll join us. While Sarah is away the first two weeks, Teagan will lead class on April 1st, 3rd, and 8th, but there will be no Vinyasa Flow on Friday April 10th. Designed to quiet the mind, soften the body, and reconnect with the breath, this slow flow practice is suitable for all levels and provides a calm and steady reset. We will begin by taking a few moments to journal, releasing any persistent thoughts or worries, and letting go of the mental clutter we might be carrying. This will not be a lengthy time to reflect, just a focused pause to acknowledge what’s been occupying our mental space and let it leave through pen to page. Setting our journals aside, we will center ourselves on the mat and begin with gentle seated postures to warm and ready the body for mindful movement. Flowing though simple sequences, finding ease in our effort, we will make our way to standing postures to summon our stability, grounding ourselves with presence. Gradually we will wind down to a restful savasana; in stillness our awareness will reside with the breath. To conclude we will take a brief opportunity to share reflections or questions, making space for support, connection, and community. Please bring yoga mat, water, journal, and pen.

Slow Flow should feel like an extended morning stretch, opening up the body in a gentle way, an intuitive realignment and reset to begin the day. The class includes light Vinyasa, flowing through postures with care; breathing exercise to rebalance the nervous system; and restorative poses for deep relaxation and release, soothing away stress and enhancing mood and vigor. Slow Flow aims to nurture the mind and body, to move in ways that feel good as we practice, and support us in feeling better beyond the mat. This is an accessible class for all students. Gaëlle will offer adjustments and honor participants’ choice whether to receive them; please communicate clearly your preferences. Bring a mat, towel, and water.

Coco Yoga & Wellness: Our Story

Coco Yoga & Wellness began in July 2018 when Teagan Patell de Valverde (Impulso Sano Yoga & Wellness Center) and Miranda Abbott-Wittman (My Yoga with Miranda), with the support of their respective husbands Kendall "Kech" Valverde and Joshua Wittman, combined forces to offer yoga, dance, arts, and therapeutic bodywork in the Playas del Coco Community. After partnering for six months at the My Yoga with Miranda studio space, Coco Yoga & Wellness launched officially in January 2019. After another eleven months of valuable teamwork supporting each other, learning from one another, and synergizing their offerings, the partnership dissolved in November 2019 with Miranda and Joshua's shifting focus to family and furthering Ninos del Sol Eco School. Teagan and Kendall continue to operate Coco Yoga & Wellness, but felt called to close the Plaza Nino rented studio location after January 2020 to follow their hearts and give their all to create a new beachfront yoga shala. Although there is sadness in closing this community center for now, we are fortunate that so many others in Playas del Coco and the surrounding areas continue with classes and offerings for our community to join together around yoga, arts, health, and wellness. We are grateful for this opportunity to align with our passion project propelling this exciting time of transition and growth, and we look forward to what's ahead on the horizon and what beauty will unfold. In response to Michelle Cassandra Johnson's open invitation to radicalize yoga to create a just world, Teagan has been developing the Yamas and Niyamas Activism Model, which she began sharing in June 2020 and will continue to share into early August. She hopes that this model will take root and be incorporated into common teaching around practical application of yoga philosophy for social activism. As Teagan and Kendall are expecting their first child at the end of August, they will be retreating from public work to dedicate their energies to family, and direct their efforts to creating the new yoga shala.
