For all my LMTs out there when your clients ask about the trigger point

Confessions of a Myofascial Trigger Point

I was never meant to be permanent. I began as a moment, a response, a slight tightening when holding felt safer than releasing. At first, it was subtle, just a brief pause in the tissue's rhythm. But the body asked me to stay. So I did. I shortened my fibers, thickened my layers, and held the chemistry still. I became a place where the river slowed and gathered its weight.

The body learned to move around me. Fascia stiffened along familiar lines, rerouting tension and sensation elsewhere. Pain drifted outward, tracing old pathways through the shoulder, jaw, back, or breath. I wasn’t creating chaos. I was containing it. I held pressure because something inside wasn’t ready to let go.

Then the hands came, not hurried, not demanding. They rested with warmth and attention, and I felt the first change before I understood it. Compression softened the alarm. The nervous system quieted its vigilance. Hyaluronic layers warmed and began to slide. A gentle current brushed past me as the fascial wave moved through the body, reminding the tissue of motion I thought had been lost.

When the wave reached me, it paused. I was seen. The hands didn’t press me deeper into holding. Instead, they slipped beneath me, lifting me gently toward the bone. The pressure shifted in different directions, changing the shape of everything I had been holding together. My fibers lengthened. Blood returned. Chemistry softened. I felt warmth where there had been tightness and a trembling where there had been certainty.

I tried to stay. Old patterns don’t dissolve easily. But time was offered instead of force. Breath moved. Electrical chatter quieted. The nervous system loosened its grip on the story I had been carrying. Slowly, and with only a little drama on my part, I melted. The dam cracked, and the water I had been holding found its way forward again.

As I released, the river surged outward, carrying the change through the fascial lines that connect the whole body. Where I once stood, there was space, warmth, and movement.

I was never the enemy; I was the pause that kept the body safe until it was ready. And when it was finally met with patience, presence, and understanding of a healer like you, I let go. The river remembered itself, and so did I.

A little over a month away from the next Myotherapy retreat in Costa Rica and I’m getting excited about this group. They are starting to chat on WhatsApp and planning excursions and getting to know each other. They will be coming from Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Texas, Illinois and Rhode Island. Here’s a few of my favorite Costa Rica pics….

Just a few miles from Uvita is the Reserva Playa Tortuga in Ojochal. This is located at Playa Tortuga which is mainly a turtle nesting beach. The reserve is made up of volunteers from all over the world whose goal is to protect and keep the turtles coming back year after year. I worked briefly as a turtle egg relocator when I first moved to Costa Rica. Each night the volunteers walk the beaches late at night, sometimes until midnight, waiting for female turtles to arrive and lay their eggs, anywhere from 90- 110 eggs from one female. The volunteers protect the eggs from poachers and animals. The eggs are then relocated to the sanctuary where they will hatch in about 60 days. Then the baby turtles are released on the same beach where their mother arrived. These turtles can travel thousands of miles away but when it’s time to lay their eggs they return to the very place where they were born to lay their eggs. Super amazing 🌊

Locals consider these good luck and make a wish everytime they see a morpho butterfly. From experience these wishes do come true. During my last Myotherapy retreat we would see three morpho butterflies flying together near the yoga deck where we did our training. Many wishes were made that week 🦋 💫🐒

The blue morpho butterfly is one of Costa Rica’s most magical creatures, and beyond its beauty, it has some wonderfully strange qualities. Here are 10 strange facts about it:

They aren’t really blue – Their wings have no blue pigment. The dazzling color comes from microscopic scales that bend light, creating an iridescent effect.

Their undersides are camouflage masters – The top is shiny blue, but the underside is brown with eye-like patterns, making them nearly invisible when their wings are closed.

They flash like strobe lights – When flying, they alternate between the bright blue top and the dull brown underside, creating a flashing effect that confuses predators.

They can taste with their feet – Like many butterflies, they have sensors on their feet that help them detect whether a leaf is good for laying eggs.

They love rotting fruit more than flowers – While many butterflies sip nectar, blue morphos often prefer fermenting fruit, and sometimes they even get tipsy on it.

They have a keen sense of smell… in their antennae – Their clubbed antennae are like little radar systems that guide them to food and mates.

They are surprisingly big – With wingspans up to 8 inches (20 cm), they are among the largest butterflies in the world.

Males are more “showy” than females – The males’ wings are brighter blue, while females often have more subdued colors mixed with brown.

They only live a few months – Despite their striking beauty, adults typically survive for just 115 days or so.

They’ve inspired everything from art to anti-counterfeiting technology – Scientists have studied their wing scales to develop new kinds of security features for money and credit cards.

✨ In Costa Rica, spotting a blue morpho fluttering by in the rainforest is often considered a little stroke of good luck.
