With Valentine's Day soon upon us, we are reminded to celebrate those we love.

But yoga calls us to a daily practice of loving devotion, not just to others, but to ourselves.

This is Bhakti.

Bhakti invites us to act from unconditional love. And that starts with ourselves.

It invites us to choose ourselves.
And to see the divine in ourselves.

So this Valentine's Day, let your love radiate inward first.

Commit to practicing Bhakti, self-love as an act of sacred devotion.
Devotion to self. Devotion to the practice.
And devotion to the divine within.

For more on how devotion to your practice is an act of self-love, check out our latest blog post at lakshmirising.com/5-reasons-devotion-to-your-practice-is-self-love/

Golden light. Quiet water. Open hearts.
This is Algarve living — slow, intentional, and shared. 🌿

Moments like these remind us that community is medicine.
That presence nourishes the soul.
That simple rhythms calm the nervous system in ways nothing else quite can.

We gather to move. To breathe. To soften.
To remember who we are beneath the noise.

Our next immersive program begins February 8 ✨
One last spot remains.

If you feel the pull… trust it. 🤍

Modern culture sells self-love as aesthetic.
Candles. Baths. Perfectly curated rituals. ✨
And while those can be sweet, real self-love is simpler.

It shows up on ordinary days. Messy days. Tired days.

It looks less like indulgence and more like devotion.

In yoga, this is abhyasa — steady, faithful practice.

Not perfect. Not heroic.

Just the willingness to return. Again and again.
Return to breath.
Return to body.
Return to what matters.

Sometimes self-love looks like making soup instead of ordering out.
Going to bed earlier.
Taking ten slow breaths in your car.
Choosing water over another coffee.
Rolling out your mat even when practice feels flat.
These choices may not photograph well.
But they build a life.
A nervous system that feels safer.
A mind that feels less frantic.
A body that feels listened to.
And trust.

Choosing yourself becomes an act of listening.
And instead of numbing. Instead of scrolling.
You turn toward yourself.
That turning is everything.

Because to choose yourself is to stop outsourcing your worth.
It is releasing the belief that rest must be earned.
That care needs justification.
That your inner life doesn’t deserve devotion.
You are worthy of care simply because you are alive. 🤍

Room at the table for everyone. 🤍

Different stories.
Different bodies.
Different backgrounds.
Different seasons of life.

And yet — we gather.
We share meals.
We practice together.
We listen.
We learn.
We grow.

At Lakshmi Rising, inclusivity isn’t a tagline.
It’s a lived value.
It’s how we design our trainings.
It’s how we hold space.
It’s who we welcome.

You don’t need to look a certain way.
Move a certain way.
Have a certain résumé.
Believe a certain thing.

You just need to arrive as you are.

There is space for you here.
Always.

Yin ≠ Restorative
They may look similar. They are not the same.

✨ Yin Yoga works with stress.
Long-held shapes apply gentle load to connective tissue—fascia, ligaments, joints. Sensation is expected. Stillness becomes a meditation inside intensity.

🌙 Restorative Yoga works with rest.
The body is fully supported so effort dissolves. No edge. No stretch. Just deep nervous-system regulation and repair.

One builds resilience.
The other restores balance.
Both are powerful—when used intentionally.

⚠️ Important note: Yin is not appropriate for everyone. For hypermobile bodies, long passive holds can increase joint instability. Strength, support, and discernment matter.

Stillness is not one-size-fits-all.
The practice should meet the body—not override it.

Hip openers aren’t just about flexibility.

They’re a conversation with the body.
A gradual unwinding.
An invitation, not a demand.

In this warm-up, every movement has a purpose—
to prepare the joints, awaken the nervous system,
and create enough safety and clarity for deeper work to unfold.

This is what we teach in our yoga teacher trainings:
how to sequence thoughtfully,
how to prepare the physical, energetic, and mental body,
and how to guide students toward depth with intelligence and care.

We learn this—and so much more—when we slow down, listen, and build from the ground up.

Lakshmi Rising

Lakshmi Rising Vinyasa Yoga is an awareness-based practice that includes fluid, dynamic asana, kriya, pranayama, mantra, meditation, dance, wellness, self-care and ritual for health and awakening.

This approach is a revitalizing laboratory for uniquely experiencing and expressing Self while mindfully honoring whatever exists in each present moment. Our practice cultivates mental, physical and spiritual strength and flexibility so that we are able to recognize and transform habits, patterns and conditionings that cause suffering in any way. We use the mat as a metaphor to understand where we are stuck so that we can eliminate that which does not enhance the unfoldment of our individual and collective evolution.

Some practices are challenging, vigorous and will require self-discipline. Some practices are slow and juicy with therapeutic space for rest and relaxation. Both styles are valuable, both are important. Lakshmi Rising is the place where sweat, tears, openness and fun meet softness, quiet, introspection and self love. This is an inclusive method available to everyone. In the lineage of Sri Krishnamacharya, we affirm that anyone who can breathe can practice yoga. The Lakshmi Rising technique makes the practice accessible to all. We “fit the Yoga to the body rather than trying to fit the body into the Yoga”.

Benefits include grace, flexibility, strength, balance and well-being in the body and mind. You may also feel a sense of purpose, clarity, creativity, focus, connection, inner peace and confidence.
