Corn silk is quiet medicine.

The parts we often discard carry wisdom about flow, patience, and gentle release.

Traditionally used to support the urinary system, this plant doesn’t push the body. It reminds it how to soften, receive, and gently move again in its own time.

For those holding water, emotions, or tension because it hasn’t felt safe to let go…
this is your reminder:

You’re allowed to flow again.

🌿How have you worked with corn silk? 🌿
Share below so we can all learn from each other!

Oregano’s presence clears what doesn’t belong —
in the body, in the lungs,
and in the spaces we can’t name but deeply feel.

Oregano moves fast.

Her spiciness burns away stagnation and old residue.

She sharpens the immune system and fortifies boundaries.

She stands at the threshold like a watchful queen —
drawbridge lifted, gates sealed, cutting off whatever drains your life force.

She doesn’t coddle. She deep cleans.
She reminds the body how to stand its ground.

We work with her in our Flu Away tincture,
add her to ear drops,
mix her with vinegar for cleansing,
and invite her often into soups and bean pots —
simple, ancestral, effective.

Call her in when you need clarity, strength, fortification, and clean space — inside and out. 🌿🌿 🌿

Here’s the thing no one tells you about harvesting:
You don’t choose the leaves…
the leaves choose you. ✨

Most people harvest with their hands.
But the real medicine comes from listening with your heart.

Tulsi loves the sun,
and when she hasn’t received it, she speaks through her leaves.
Some are fading, softening…
not fully vibrant, not fully gone.

So what do you do?
Keep or compost?

I let the plant decide.

I slow down.
I breathe.
I tune in.
And I ask each leaf:

“Where do you want to go?”
“Are you medicine… or are you compost today?”

It’s such a simple practice—
and yet it changes everything.

Because this is more than herbalism.
It’s relationship.
It’s reverence.
It’s humility—acknowledging we don’t always know best.

It’s remembering that every leaf carries spirit.
Every leaf has a choice.

And when we listen,
the medicine becomes deeper, clearer, more alive.

The plant leads.
We follow.

Why we began KIS Botanicals ...

From the words of Ivannia and Solin: We started KIS because we saw our generation and the following generations pull away from plants and the environment. We witnessed the high schoolers obsessed with their new cell phones and motorcycles, littering the street with their chip wrappers and soda bottles. Our community was changing dramatically. Starting in the late 1980s, houses received electricity, running water, and phones, but also within that same generation, the community received access to the internet, cell phones arrived, and all of a sudden there was almost a motorbike or car per person in town. In most of the United States and Europe, these changes happened over several generations.

We have witnessed a huge disconnect from our ancestors and the understanding of how they lived in harmony with the rainforest. This younger generation has mostly left the area for other opportunities after high school, leaving the community void of a generation. With KIS Botanicals, we hope to show that our ancestor’s way of life continues to have value. We aim to re-awaken our ancestral plant knowledge in the younger generations with our products and educational programs within local schools. We also want to be an example of how to be a successful, locally owned business, making our local economy stronger and more diverse.
