In Summary, Jon Kabat-Zinn’s solution to overwhelm is to:
Pause and Anchor yourself in the present moment (using the breath or the STOP practice).

Observe with Curiosity what is happening in your mind and body, without immediately judging it or trying to fix it.

Acknowledge Thoughts as Mental Events, not absolute truths, which reduces their intensity.

Respond Consciously from a place of slightly greater calm and awareness, rather than reacting from a place of panic.

His message is profoundly empowering: The awareness that notices the feeling of overwhelm is itself not overwhelmed. By cultivating that awareness through regular practice, you build an inner sanctuary that can withstand the storms of daily life.

Dear friends,

When we moved from NYC to the Ecovillage in Costa Rica back in 2017 and created our retreat company, we named it “Breathtaking,” inspired by the awe, the breath, and the moments of wonder that leave us speechless. From that same feeling, our “Take a Breath” Retreats were born—mindfulness experiences infused with Jewish spirituality and anchored in the most precious meditation tool of all: the breath.

We never imagined a world where breathing near one another would be a threat. While a sigh may be “just a sigh” in song, today we are feeling the profound weight of our collective sighs of hope—with the end of the war and the return of the hostages, all alive, and the slow, sacred return of those who are not.

In this moment, the response to our retreat has been profoundly moving. With only a few spots left for our February 17-22, 2026 retreat in Costa Rica, we invite you to join this gathering.

You will leave with practices that are flexible and adaptable to your professional and personal life. We know there is never a true “The End” to life’s challenges, and that healing is a continuous cycle. By becoming deeply aware of where we are internally, we can fully engage in our own healing and contribute to the collective mending of our world.

We know that committing to a retreat is a significant decision. Whether you have questions or are feeling called to join but would like to connect with us first, we love scheduling Zoom calls. A conversation can make all the difference.

Have questions or feel a pull to learn more? Just send us a DM (direct message) or email us at breathtake.in@gmail.com

Come and breathe pure life with us at the beachfront retreat center.

our hearts are filled with the will to be part of any work that will secure peace for all. Shabbat Shalom,

Yom Kippur is a day with no hiding place. It’s the one day we are called to stand, without excuses, before the truth of our lives in community.

It is a day of liberating honesty.

This year, we’re focusing that honesty into a single question: What will we do in our name?

Not what is done by others. Not what is justified by fear. But what we, ourselves, will take ownership of.

This is our humble declaration for the year ahead: “IN MY NAME (An Unfinished Prayer)”

▪️ I will zoom in to people’s uniqueness so that I don’t zoom out to generalize them.
▪️ I will loosen the grip on old stories of being wronged, to free my present from their weight.
▪️ I will build bridges, not walls.
▪️ I will choose curiosity over judgment without losing my moral compass.
▪️ I will offer presence, even when it’s uncomfortable.
▪️ I will listen to the quiet need behind the loud noise.
▪️ I will forgive others, and myself, for being imperfectly human.
▪️ I will scream what in my name is not. I will not let fear or silence make me complicit.

This list is not finished.

What will you do in your name? (This is a question for your soul, no need to share—but we are all wondering it together.)

However you observe this sacred day, may it be a time of profound and honest presence. And don’t forget to always put your name in it.

With love,
Marcelo and Karina

Fascinating and still obvious insight from neuroscience that challenges our approach to leadership, productivity, and mental well-being.

Renowned neuroscientist Nazareth Castellanos’s work demonstrates that our brain is continuously “sculpted” by the signals from our body. This isn’t just philosophical; it’s physiological.

She states: “The brain is a prisoner of the body’s physiology. To change the mind, we must first change the body.”

This has profound implications. It means that sustainable performance isn’t just about cognitive strategies. It’s about body-level hygiene: managing our stress through breathwork, improving posture during long work hours, and building interoceptive awareness to prevent burnout.

It reminds me of another of her powerful quotes: “One can only love what one knows, and one only loves what one takes care of.”

To care for our teams, our work, and our vision, we must first care for the instrument we use to engage with it all: ourselves. How are you integrating mind-body practices into your leadership and daily routine?
