The process of the surgery using the MIA technique begins with local anesthesia of the entire breast area. A balloon is inserted through a small incision in the armpit and gradually inflated to create the pocket for the implant.

Motiva implants, with projection on both sides and a diamond-like shape, provide greater projection even with a smaller diameter when positioned correctly. Once the pocket is prepared with the balloon, the implant is atraumatically inserted using a specialized tool, all within a few minutes.

Today we explain what the MIA breast augmentation technique is and how it differs from traditional breast augmentation methods.

•What is the MIA technique?
A minimally invasive breast augmentation method performed through very small incisions, with minimal disruption of the tissues.

•How does it differ from traditional breast augmentation?
The differences between the MIA technique and the traditional methods performed with a scalpel are significant. With conventional techniques, some of the ligaments responsible for the long-term stability of the result are cut or damaged, which can lead to the implant becoming more ptotic over time.

Choose your implants wisely!
One of the most common questions we receive from our patients is: “Which implants do you use and why?”

The answer is simple: for the safety of our patients, we only use the latest-generation implants that are FDA-approved.

Older-generation implants had a rougher surface and the silicone inside was not as cohesive. This meant they could break more easily, leading to silicone leakage. A clear example of this is what you see in the photos: an implant that was placed only a few years ago, found in the condition shown.

Preparing our patient for her MIA breast augmentation procedure!

The reason we have advised this patient to choose the MIA technique is based on the criteria she herself has set. She wants a natural-looking breast augmentation, with small implants, since she doesn’t want her breast size to increase more than 2 cup sizes.

During the surgery, which can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation, through a small 2-cm incision in the armpit area we insert a tool, which we inflate precisely to the size of the boundaries we selected before surgery.

For example, although her breast base here is 12, we know that the pocket we want to create must have a diameter of 10 in this specific case. So, using this tool, we atraumatically create the pocket, into which we will later insert the MIA implant using another device.

What are the characteristics of MIA implants? They are very soft, with high elasticity, which allows us to place them through this small incision in the armpit area.

The result? A natural breast augmentation with up to 2 cup sizes increase, minimally invasive, with a surgery duration of 15–20 minutes, and the patient can return home the same day — in fact, after just a few hours — and return to her daily routine the next day.
