🦷 Your Oral Health Affects Your Whole Body! 🦷- How?

Here are the 5 most important oral-systemic links it is good to know about:

✅ Heart Disease – Gum disease (periodontitis) has been linked to heart disease. The bacteria from infected gums can enter your bloodstream, leading to inflammation that increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

✅ Diabetes – If you have diabetes, you’re more likely to have gum disease, and vice versa. Periodontitis can make it harder to control blood sugar, worsening diabetes symptoms.

✅ Respiratory Diseases – Harmful oral bacteria can be inhaled into the lungs, potentially contributing to pneumonia and chronic respiratory conditions.

✅ Pregnancy Complications – Poor oral health has been linked to preterm birth and low birth weight. Pregnant women with gum disease have a higher risk of complications.

✅ Alzheimer’s & Brain Health – Research suggests that bacteria from gum disease can travel to the brain, increasing the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease.

🔬 The Periodontitis-Body Connection: Periodontitis isn’t just about bleeding gums—it’s a chronic inflammatory condition that can contribute to serious health problems throughout the body. Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene, and professional cleanings can help reduce these risks!

What is a Tongue Tie & Why Myofunctional Therapy Matters! 👅✨

A tongue tie (also called ankyloglossia) is when the thin band of tissue under the tongue (lingual frenulum) is too short or tight, restricting tongue movement. This can affect speech, swallowing, breathing, and even jaw development!

Many people got a lingual frenulum cut, when they were babies (frenectomy is a procedure to release the tongue tie), but mostly they didn't have any therapy done after the release, which most probably made that the tissue grew together again, in a way that the tongue again got restricted.

Did you know that myofunctional therapy before and after the frenulum cut is as important as the cut itself?

Myofunctional Therapy:

✅ Before the release: The therapy helps strengthen and prepare the tongue for better movement, ensuring the best possible results.

✅ After the release: Exercises help retrain the tongue, prevent reattachment, and promote proper function for speaking, eating, and breathing.

Think of it like physical therapy for your tongue! 💪 A well-prepared tongue leads to a smoother recovery and long-term benefits.
