WHY IS GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT SM SYSTEM METHOD?
What is SM system method?
Spiral stabilization and mobilization is a unique method which effectively prevents and treats disorders of the spine and main joints such shoulder, hip, knee and ankle. It is a non-invasive and non-surgical treatment that achieves lasting results, especially for a person with disc herniation and scoliosis. SM System is based on a deep anatomical knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and its function. The author is Dr. Smíšek from Czech Republic.
How does it work?
Main effect of this method is to induce traction force in the area of intervertebral discs, decompression and alignment of the spine. This enables better nutrition and regeneration of the disc as well as to achieve an optimal mobility of the spine due to the even distribution of motion to individual segments. Only spiral stabilized motion eliminates a pain and only its proper function prevents compression of the spine.
How are the exercises performed?
The exercises are performed only in vertical position (standing, sitting or kneeling down) with an elastic cord attached to a patient’s wrists or ankles. Gradually increased resistance activates stabilizing muscle chains which is followed by stretching during natural relaxation. Exercises can be easily followed up by a 30 minutes home program.
SM system method aims to achieve:
• posture alignment
• decompression of intervertebral discs
• strengthening and stretching of muscles
• stabilizing of the spine
• movement coordination
• optimally coordinated and stabilized walking and running
Other indications:
Poor posture
Flat feet
Back pain in pregnancy
Osteoporosis
Disc degeneration
Hip and knee surgery including implants
Arthritis
SM system method is used as a prevention and a therapy. There are exercises which are easily learnt by everyone but it is important to begin a treatment with a trained physical therapist. If you are suffering from disc herniation and sciatica the program must be indicated very carefully performed slowly with proper strength. Combination of manual techniques to release tight muscles which hinder an optimal movement during exercise is a must.
