Sauna exposure induces several physiological responses — including elevated heart rate, increased blood flow, and sweating — that closely mimic the effects of moderate physical exercise. These responses are associated with known benefits for cardiovascular health.

The proposed mechanisms underlying these benefits include improved endothelial function, reduced arterial stiffness, and favorable changes in systemic blood pressure.

In a study by Laukkanen et al. (2015), individuals who used a sauna two to three times per week had a 22% lower risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) compared with those who used it only once per week. The risk was 63% lower among those who used a sauna four to seven times per week. Similar trends were observed for coronary heart disease (CHD), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and all-cause mortality, indicating a significant association between frequent sauna bathing and improved cardiovascular outcomes.
