Have you noticed how your energy softens the moment you’re near water? You don’t even need to enter it sometimes. Just dipping your feet in can be enough.
Maybe you’ve always called yourself a water baby.
Maybe holidays are only holidays if they involve the sea.
Maybe you feel more yourself in a swimsuit than dressed up for anything else.
Maybe you’ve caught yourself staring at the ocean thinking, I could just stay here forever.
Your breath slows down, your mind stops racing, and you feel a little bit more you.
Have you ever wondered why?
Your inner child loves water because water is where we first felt held. In the womb, we floated safely, without having to do anything or be anyone. In the warmth of your mother’s womb, you received everything you needed to develop, grow, and feel nourished and cared for.
Your body remembers that version of you. And water helps activate that memory and bring it to the surface. This memory lives in your nervous system. So when you step into water, something inside you recognises it, even if your mind can’t explain it.
That’s why you might feel emotional by the sea for “no reason”.
Why tears come.
Why joy feels closer.
Why you suddenly want to play, float, dive, or just lie there doing nothing.
Your inner child wants to feel.
To move.
To trust.
To be curious.
To play.
And water gives them the permission to do that.
This is also why experiences like swimming with dolphins, floating near whales, or being in the presence of whale sharks feel so deeply touching. These experiences are not magical because they’re exotic or another “bucket list” item, far from it. They are magical because they bypass the adult mind and speak directly to the body and spirit.
Animals don’t ask who you are, what you do, or how strong you’re being.
They meet you exactly where you are.
And your inner child recognises that safety instantly.
When you allow the water to hold you, you are invited to soften into exactly who you are in that momen. Presence. Truth. Just you.
