A milestone in surgical care — first pan-European use of the 90° articulation powered stapler!

We are delighted to report that recently, one of our patients undergoing a laparoscopic anterior resection for re**al cancer became the first in Europe to benefit from the world-first 90° articulation powered stapler.

🌍✈️ Honoured to have attended the Colore**al Tripartite Meeting 2025 in Paris, one of the world’s leading gatherings in colore**al surgery.

This unique forum brought together experts from across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australasia to share the latest evidence, surgical innovations, and best practices in the management of colore**al disease.

Grateful for the opportunity to exchange knowledge, discuss challenging cases, and bring back new insights that will directly benefit my patients.

Extraordinary 2024

As we reflect on an extraordinary 2024, we’re thrilled to celebrate the milestones we have achieved - advancing medical knowledge, promoting collaboration, and breaking surgical barriers.

Our personal audit has shown that this year we have managed to exceed expectations by undertaking over 150 major colore**al procedures, 85% in patients suffering with malignancy, completed in 97% of cases laparoscopically, where applicable. We cared for patients as old as 94 years old and as young as 19 years old, with the median age of our patients being 71 years old. Our 30-day mortality and morbidity outcomes were better or comparable to the national averages of advanced countries such as the United Kingdom (NBOCA audit) and the United States, reflecting the high standards of our practice and encouraging us to continue providing care of the highest level to our patients.

2024 also saw our first Cypriot patients declared cancer free, after finishing their 5-year surveillance programme following their cancer surgery. These achievements would not have been possible without the trust bestowed upon us by our patients and their families, to whom we would like to send our best wishes and message of care and empowerment, especially to those still fighting with their disease.

Last but not least, we would like to thank our nursing staff, colleagues, work-partners and families for their constant and unwavering support.

We would like to welcome our first international fellow Dr Ravit Tuito from Israel to our surgical oncology fellowship program.

Dr Tuito will have a unique opportunity to actively participate in all our GI MDTs, clinics and ward rounds and will also participate in more than 300 cases/year in colore**al and HPB surgery. Our faculty is using cutting edge technology, state-of-the-art surgical techniques and comprehensive care.

We also offer a multitude of opportunities to participate in both clinical and basic science research as well as teaching opportunities through our collaboration with the Medical School of the University of Nicosia.

Our mission is to train the future leaders in the field of surgical oncology.

ΠΡΟΗΓΜΕΝΕΣ ΧΕΙΡΟΥΡΓΙΚΕΣ ΕΠΕΜΒΑΣΕΙΣ ΣΕ ΠΡΟΧΩΡΗΜΕΝΕΣ ΗΛΙΚΙΕΣ – Τα πλεονεκτήματα της Ελάχιστα Επεμβατικής Χειρουργικής

Στην ηλικία των 86 ετών ο ΜΝ διαγνώστηκε με υποτροπή του καρκίνου του παχέως εντέρου. Με τη βοήθεια της ομάδας μας και της Ελάχιστα Επεμβατικής Χειρουργικής, υποβλήθηκε σε 3 επιτυχημένες επεμβάσεις μέσα σε λίγους μήνες (σύγχρονη λαπαροσκοπική κολεκτομή και ηπατική μεταστεκτομή ακολουθούμενη από ρομποτική πυελική μεταστεκτομή και εν τέλει αποκατάσταση της συνέχειας του εντέρου). Τώρα είναι ελεύθερος νόσου για άλλη μια φορά!

Στο τέλος αυτού του δύσκολου ταξιδιού στη μάχη κατά του καρκίνου, θα θέλαμε να τον ευχαριστήσουμε για την εμπιστοσύνη που μας έδειξε.

EXTREME SURGERY AT THE EXTREMES OF AGE – The merits of Minimally Invasive Surgery

In the age of 86 years old, Mr MD was diagnosed with recurrent colon cancer. With the help of our team and the minimally invasive surgery he underwent 3 successful procedures in a few months (synchronous laparoscopic colectomy and liver metastectomy followed by robotic pelvic metastectomy and finally, restoration of bowel continuity). Now he is cancer free once again!

At the end of this difficult journey in the fight against cancer, we would like to thank him for trusting us with his care!
