We love this …
In the Netherlands, children are being taught sustainability in the most practical way possible: by fixing broken items instead of throwing them away. At the Kids Repair Café, young students learn how to repair toys, bicycles, electronics, clothes, and household items with the guidance of volunteer experts.
The initiative began as part of the circular economy movement, which encourages reusing and repairing instead of replacing. By teaching repair skills early, Dutch educators hope to build a generation that values sustainability, creativity, and problem-solving.
Kids learn how tools work, how machines function internally, and how everyday objects can be restored instead of discarded. This reduces waste, builds confidence, and strengthens environmental awareness.
The project is so successful that it has inspired similar programs across Europe. Kids love it — and parents love seeing broken items come home working again.
