Why is it necessary to stop wearing contact lenses before a preoperative examination?
Preoperative examination for laser vision correction is only accurate if the eye is in its natural state. However, contact lenses temporarily alter this state and affect the shape of the cornea, tear film distribution, and can distort important measurement parameters.
It is recommended to stop wearing contact lenses approximately two weeks before the preoperative examination. This period will allow the cornea to return to its natural shape and ensure that the resulting measurements are accurate and reliable. In the case of hard or special lenses, an even longer interval may be necessary.
