👩‍⚕️ Humans over algorithms

Although AI is becoming increasingly important in the healthcare sector, personal contact remains crucial for many Europeans.

When asked who they trust in health matters, clear preferences emerge: When asked who they trust in health matters, clear preferences emerge:
🩺 General practitioners (69%)
👩‍⚕️ Other healthcare professionals (61%)
💊 Pharmacists (58%)

After that, there’s a steep drop. Only around one in four people (24%) still turn to scientific media for health information. Among non-human sources, Google ranks second with 20% trust.

Interestingly, AI is trusted by 15% of people - more than mainstream media (12%) and health influencers (11%). Even 39% can imagine visiting an AI instead of a doctor.

At the very bottom of the list are politicians. Just 8% of Europeans trust them in health matters, though that figure rises slightly to 11% among younger people.

The takeaway: Even in an increasingly digital world, we continue to place our trust first and foremost in people - especially those with medical training. In matters of health, information is everywhere but it's not just knowledge we seek, but care we can rely on.

AI in healthcare: curiosity meets caution

Opinions on AI in healthcare are divided. While two out of five people say they could imagine consulting AI instead of a doctor, many still have reservations.

Supporters appreciate AI’s constant availability, immediate responses, and objectivity. Some even report feeling more at ease sharing sensitive health information with a digital tool than with a human being.

On the other hand, about half of Europeans remain skeptical ❌. The biggest concerns include doubts about AI’s accuracy, the lack of human interaction, and a general unwillingness to rely on technology for something as vital as health. Data privacy is also a key issue 🔒.

Still, this skepticism may not be permanent. One in four critics say they would reconsider their view if the technology becomes more reliable ✅.

The conversation is ongoing – and so is the evolution of AI in healthcare.

Through the ESG initiative "The Most Important Call in Life", our STADA colleagues at Hemofarm Fondacija are making a real difference in Serbia.

This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and the power of solidarity. 💙 Thanks to this impactful campaign, 15 lives were saved through the process of transplantation, serving as a powerful reminder of how awareness can lead to concrete actions.

During 2024, the message reached people across the country through 70 digital billboards, 20,000 cinema screenings, 400,000 plays in healthcare centers, and 70 national TV broadcasts.
