EVIDENCE OF NEUROFEEDBACK METHODS IN EPILEPSY
Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, therapeutic form of biofeedback in which patients learn to consciously regulate their own brain activity โ measured using EEG. Through operant conditioning, they receive real-time feedback on their brainwaves and are trained to promote desired neural patterns and inhibit undesired ones.
Particularly in cases of drug-resistant epilepsy โ affecting approximately one-third of all people with epilepsy โ neurofeedback has established itself as a promising complementary treatment option. The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the evidence-based research.

Es besteht in Fachkreisen heute kein Zweifel mehr, dass angesichts der Datenlage Korrelationen zu Stรถrungen bestehen, welche das QEEG abzubilden in der Lage ist. Abweichungen von Normdaten im EEGs korrelieren mit Symptome, welche als QEEG-Phรคnotypen oder EEG-Biomarker bezeichnet werden. Manche dieser Musster geben erfahrenen Klinikern sogar wichtige Hinweise zur entsprechenden Medikation.
Einige EEG-Phรคnotypen: ADHS-QEEG รberschuss an frontalen Theta oder Alpha-Wellen. Starkes Alpha-Defizit, oder Exzess im Alpha. Seltener Exzessive Beta-Aktivitรคt. Bei Exzessiver Alpha- oder Beta-Aktivitรคt ist Ritalin meist wenig wirksam. Das QEEG bei Autismus und Autismus-Spektrumsstรถrung zeigt oftmals extreme nรberschuss an schnellen Betawellen und extremer Hypokohรคrenz in der Betafrequenz. Bei Depression und QEEG In der Frontallappenregion sieht man hรคufig รผberschรผssiges linksseitiges Alpha, bei Burnout und Posttraumatischer Belastungsstรถrung ist in den hinteren Bereichen des Gehirns oftmals รผbermรครig hohe Beta-Aktivitรคt verbunden mit Defizit in Alpha, Theta und Delta erkennbar. Lernstรถrungen. Das QEEG zeigt u.a. deutliche Abweichungen im Bereich der Schlรคfenlappen Da hรคufig auch die Sprache betroffen ist, finden wir in der Nรคhe der Zentren fรผr Sprachverarbeitung entsprechende Defizite in den neuronalen Netzwerken, die intermodal Signale verarbeiten, wie z.B. Sehen/Motorik/Sprache. Aufmerksamkeitsstรถrungen sind anhand des QEEGs oft nicht die Ursache fรผr Lernstรถrungen.
Das QEEG belegt auch, dass es sich dabei meist um eine Verarbeitungsstรถrung handelt, die unserer Erfahrung nach auch mit Neurofeedback behandelt werden kann. Die im QEEG dargestellten Messgrรถรen erweitern das neurologische EEG an Aussagekraft. Selbst das geรผbte Auge des erfahrensten Neurologen kann meist nicht zwischen einer oder zwei Standardabweichungen unterscheiden. Sehr wohl sind diese Abweichungen fรผr viele Symtome aber entscheidend. Was fรผr den einen Betrachter als normale Hintergrundaktivitรคt erscheint, mag fรผr einen anderen Diagnostiker bereits eine generelle Verlagerung des Gesamt-EEGs darstellen.
Fassen wir zusammen: Das QEEG gibt der dem Kliniker Auskunft darรผber, wo und in welchem Ausmaร eine Abweichung von der Norm besteht. Und hier zeigen sich die besonderen Vorteile des QEEGs mit Datenbankvergleich.
