Yesterday marked our first official Beirat meeting with representatives of the Verbandsgemeinde Unkel, the Mayor, and members from SPD, Grüne, and CDU political parties.

I am humbled to share that I was elected as the stellvertretender Vorsitzender (Deputy Chairperson) of the Beirat.

It’s an honor to represent and contribute to our community in this role, working together across cultures and parties for a more inclusive and forward-thinking future in Unkel.

Grateful for the trust and support — looking forward to the journey ahead!

Gestern fand unsere erste offizielle Beiratssitzung mit Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der Verbandsgemeinde Unkel, dem Bürgermeister sowie Mitgliedern der SPD, Grünen und CDU statt.

Ich freue mich sehr, mitteilen zu können, dass ich zum stellvertretenden Vorsitzenden des Beirats gewählt wurde.

Es ist mir eine große Ehre, in dieser beratenden Funktion einen Beitrag für unsere Gemeinschaft zu leisten – über Kulturen und Parteien hinweg – für eine offene und zukunftsorientierte Zusammenarbeit in Unkel.

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting the DW News (DW) studio here in Bonn — and what an experience it was! This iconic building, right in the heart of the city, was once meant to be the parliament office for Bundestag members, but after Germany’s reunification, it became the home of DW — Germany’s international voice to the world.

Usually, before visiting a place or meeting someone, I read up and prepare myself well… but this time, I didn’t. I went in with curiosity — and it turned out to be one of the best experiences!

I was invited by Deutsche Welle to speak to their journalists on topics that are so close to my heart. We had some amazing conversations about how science, empathy, and innovation can come together to make a real difference — even beyond Earth! 🚀🪐

A big thank you to the DW team for the warm welcome and thoughtful discussion. Looking forward to more such collaborations in the future! ✨

I had an interesting conversation with The Local Europe (Germany) about my journey from India → Seychelles → Germany, and why I decided to begin my political journey here just 9–10 months after moving to Germany. 🇮🇳🌍🇸🇨🇩🇪

Heute hat Bürgermeister Herr Karsten Fehr gemeinsam mit den Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten im Bürgerpark nicht nur die Beiratswahl-Infoveranstaltung eröffnet, sondern auch die Wahlplakate vorgestellt.

In seiner Rede betonte er eindrucksvoll, warum Vielfalt eine zentrale Stärke unserer demokratischen Gesellschaft in Deutschland ist.

Die Plakate werden ab sofort in Unkel und den umliegenden Orten zu sehen sein.
Am 21. September ist Wahltag – gemeinsam bauen wir ein stärkeres Unkel! 💪✨

Today at the Bürgerpark, Mayor Mr. Karsten Fehr and the candidates not only held the Beirat election information event but also unveiled the campaign placards.

In his speech, he underlined why diversity is a vital strength of our democratic society in Germany.

The placards will now be visible throughout Unkel and the surrounding areas.

Wahl des Beirates für Migration und Integration der Verbandsgemeinde Unkel – Briefwahl am 21. September 2025

Die Wahlzeit des amtierenden Beirates für Migration und Integration in der Verbandsgemeinde Unkel neigt sich dem Ende entgegen. Bürgermeister Fehr lädt als Wahlleiter alle wahlberechtigten Bürgerinnen und Bürger herzlich zur Neuwahl dieses Beirates ein. Die Wahl findet bis Sonntag, den 21. September 2025, ausschließlich per Briefwahl statt.

„Die Beiräte für Migration und Integration sind essenziell, um die Interessen und Bedürfnisse von Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund in die kommunale Politik einzubringen. Sie fördern den interkulturellen Dialog, unterstützen Integrationsprojekte und tragen aktiv dazu bei, Vorurteile und Diskriminierung abzubauen. Angesichts der zunehmenden rechtsextremen Tendenzen in unserer Gesellschaft ist es wichtiger denn je, dass wir gemeinsam für eine offene und inklusive Gesellschaft einstehen“, wirbt Bürgermeister Karsten Fehr für eine möglichst hohe Wahlbeteiligung.

Wählen dürfen alle Einwohnerinnen und Einwohner der Verbandsgemeinde Unkel mit ausländischer Staatsangehörigkeit und staatenlose Einwohner. Auch Einwohnerinnen und Einwohner, die die deutsche Staatsangehörigkeit erworben haben (z.B. als Spätaussiedler oder durch Einbürgerung), sind wahlberechtigt.

Wählerinnen und Wähler müssen am Wahltag 16 Jahre alt sein und seit mindestens drei Monaten in der Verbandsgemeinde Unkel wohnen.

Die nachfolgenden Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten bewerben sich um die neun Sitze im Beirat, die neu zu vergeben sind:

Alle Wahlunterlagen werden derzeit von der Verbandsgemeindeverwaltung Unkel per Post an die Wahlberechtigten versandt. Eine persönliche Stimmabgabe im Wahllokal ist in diesem Jahr nicht vorgesehen. Die ausgefüllten Wahlunterlagen müssen bis spätestens 21. September 2025 (16.00 Uhr) bei der Verbandsgemeindeverwaltung Unkel eingegangen sein, um berücksichtigt werden zu können.

Wer sich für wahlberechtigt hält, aber keine Wahlbenachrichtigung bekommen hat, sollte sich möglichst zeitig beim Wahlamt der Verbandsgemeindeverwaltung Unkel unter 02224 / 1806-28 oder -25 oder per E-Mail unter wahlen@vgvunkel.de melden. Das Wahlamt beantwortet gerne auch weitere Fragen zur Wahl oder zum Ablauf der Briefwahl.
