Dear members of the network „who is active in diabetes prevention“,
2 weeks ago we informed you that the Global Diabetes Survey (GDS) has officially started and we invited you to become a volunteer.

I would like to thank all participants for their support and commitment. Your help to perform this ambitious global project is very valuable.

Thank you very much for your assistance !

The yearly report on the quality of diabetes care and prevention is more effective as more people from different countries participate. To ensure a high accuracy we need patients, primary care physicians, specialists, nurses, dietitians, politicians, economists, representatives from insurance companies, in short, 19 diabetes-related stakeholder groups. Therefore I invite all members who have not already taken part in the survey - to participate.

Please register at www.globaldiabetessurvey.com and answer the questionnaire about diabetes care and prevention. If you register now, you can participate in the further development of the questionnaire by sending us your comments about the questions. You, as a member of the network „who is active in diabetes prevention“ are the perfect stakeholder candidate to perform the GDS.
Sincerely yours,
Peter Schwarz, Dresden, Germany

The World Diabetes Congress took place in Dubai, the United Arab
Emirates. The reason that the Congress is held in the Gulf Region is the
currently experienced fast growth of diabetes mellitus. Another reason is a
dramatic change in lifestyle and environment structure over the last years.
This is related to the increase of prevalence. After the United Nations
Summit, where actions were founded to tackle the diabetes epidemic, it
was decided to let the congress take place in one of the burning regions in
the world. With this in mind, the first session of the Congress has made this to a topic entitled: “Acting on a larger stage 1: Advocacy and reform in a post-UN-Summit world”.
